Silver Cross prams

Wow, have just scoured the whole board and found nothing with Silver Cross in the title....am I unusual in wanting a pram of this rather traditional brand??

To me, it's a tried and tested reliable brand who make very comfortable, and reasonably value for money prams...but perhaps I'm alone in thinking this??

Anyway - I'm looking at buying the Linear Freeway pram, or possibly the 3D travel system (less so)....anyone out there have any experience at all of these prams, and can help me decide?

I live in a coastal town, plan to walk a fair bit with it, and we have a large car each with big boot?

You're not alone! Am due next Feb and have also gone for the Linear Freeway....preferred it to the 3D, just looked a bit more robust, loved everything about it.

Obviously can't give you much of a review (yet!) but also wondered why I couldn't find out much about Silver Cross, I'm buying mine from a local pram shop but was hard pushed to find many reviews online, let alone places that sell it to compare prices with.

my cousin has just bought a linear freeway,she's due in a couple of weeks,
the lady in the shop said she loves it,and has had no complaints/returns,

a friend has the 3d and its lovely for a newborn,but once your lo is about 4 months,they wont want to lie down flat all the time so they have to face away from you,

the linear freeway is a bit larger folded etc but i would def go for that,

I have this pram for my ds now nearly 21 months, its brilliant for newborns so comfy and snug, personally I think all babies should be in a carrycot type pram for their first few months at least, thats why I chose this pram.

Only downside is, its a bit heavy and bulky to fold and unfold when holding the baby . I walk everywhere and rarely fold it so it was perfect for me and my ds.

Oh brill. I went for it and ordered one today from a tiny local shop that I've never noticed before despite driving past hundreds of times. Chap was really helpful and has done me the pram for £295 and the matching car seat for £80, so am very happy

I love silver cross, I've had about 5 dif models!! Freeway is a lovely pram, very heavy though and would be better if it had proper air filled tyres for walking. It is hard to push one handed so if it rains you can't hold a brolly up so buy coats with hoods!!

I've had tons of prams, they're my thing so now have my 2 sorted for next baby from all my trials for the perfect pram with dd!!

I loved my Silver Cross 3D system, especially because you can have it so many ways with the pram, then buggy and with the carseat.

I'm surprised that you can't find any reviews about them. When I was pregnant in 2007 you couldn't move for 3D awards and write-ups. I suppose that it's been out for a few years now and isn't as design-led as some other prams.

I only went for a lightweight Silvercross Pop when DD was six months old because I developed Rheumatoid Artritis and the 3D was too heavy for me to lift in and out of the car.

I love both the 3D and the Pop and, as they're both in the same colourway, have been able to mix and match the accessories. I would highly recommend either to anyone

I went for the Linear in the end, as I had a go at lifting the 3D into my car and it weighed a ton. The Linear divides into two parts so bit easier (in some respects).
Also, sounds strange, but I wanted a bar handle, not split handles - don't know why really!

Hi,

My DS is now almost 1 (scary emoticon!)

We have the SX sleepover deluxe and I really cannot fault it, excellent pram, plus doubled as a carry cot and he slept in it til 9 weeks old.

My SIL has the 3D system and loves it, says it handles extremely well.

For a pushchair we choose the SX pop and it has been great but the crotch clip snapped last week, though to their credit, SX sent me a new one in a matter of days.

Just as an addition to comments, I have the pop and I dont recommend it. Its stiff, hard to maneuvre, the seat is too shallow, and I sold the cosytoes immediately because it was too tight/small. It is nice and compact and reclines quite well (and has a good upright position) but I wouldnt get another one (had this one two years and it hasnt loosened up)

I love the linear freeway best buy yet & i have had 3 prams since dd was born 16m ago out of the m&p , Loola ( both i sold) the linear freeway is best by far & really cosy in the winter months i will be using this till dd is no longer in need of a buggy also love the parent facing feature even now she is a toddler my dd still faces me

Freeway is great as is the classic version - very roomy. I loved both of mine. friend bought 3D brand new and hated it after a few weeks as very very wobbly. Older child always looked squished in them too.

Another Linear Freeway fan here too! I just knew I wanted a Silver Cross pram for my son, wouldn't look at any other prams before he was born. I find it odd that so many don't consider a Silver Cross, they're just brilliant.
I haven't had any problems with it atall, and hope to use it again with a second baby in the future.

I think it's only recently that Mothercare now stock the Linear Freeway in their stores because when I was pg in 2006 they didn't stock them I had to go to an independant retailer.

Meant to add, I didn't want a travel system at all, it just looked clumsy. Wanted a traditional type pram, where baby lies completely flat without all the different contraptions that seem to be all the rage in other brands.

When they are toddlers, it's nice to have them facing you when out walking, you can chat about things together face to face. Best choice I ever made.

I have a SC linear freeway. I love it!

My dd is 2.3 now and refuses point blank to go in a pram most of the time, but on long walks she is still happy to go in the linear freeway, still happy to go rear facing (which was a massive factor for me when choosing).

Very happy with my purchase and wouldn't have chosen differently if I had to choose again

I have a Silver Cross linear chassis with Sleepover top. Fantastic pram, really comfy and easy to push. Only downside is you can't fold in one piece plus it is heavy and it wouldn't fit in my boot.

oh yes I had sleepover, which I think is slightly better than freeway! Had it on both linear and classic

oops I have the linear sleepover (just looked at the official website to confirm my suspicions). shows you how much you forget over the space of 2 and a half years. still, they all seem great prams.

Silver Cross went bust quite a few years ago and is now owned by another pushchair/pram manufacturer so the current models such as 3d & linear have only been around a couple of years so aren't tried and tested as such IYSWIM.

Most of all they are pretty mmuch copies of mamas & papas pushchairs/prams.

I'm not saying M&P is better or anything - their customer service can be dreadful, more that the current silver cross range is a new brand IYSWIM

I found my 3D very heavy and actually I wish i'd thought it through a bit more when I was considering a pram/pushchair. I love it in pram mode but not so much pushchair.

I also found it really heavy. Both my DS's were big babies, DS2 is currently 4 weeks and has now outgrown the pram mode.

We also do A Lot of walking and found it difficult on bumpier terrain. In the end, when DS1 was 6 months, I bought a 3 wheeler off ebay for a tenner and we never looked back - didn't use anything else since. It's much lighter, easier to steer & convenient.

I now consider the whole travel system thing a complete waste of money and total faff, as DS2 now lives in his Moby sling whilst I chase around after DS1

I am another fan of the SC linear freeway. DS2 is 14months and still faces me. I find it really easy to steer one-handed whilst DS2 walks with his reins.

Also have a buggyboard on it and it means the boys can face each other and beat each other up play whilst we are on the move.

I walk a lot but still prefer the swivel wheels of the freeway chassis to the air tyres of the classic chassis.
