Help! Where do I start?!

Hi, I'm new to Mumsnet - I'm pregnant with my first baby (due in Nov) and I'm struggling to decide which pushchair to buy. I don't want to buy a travel system, as I've heard that the car seats get very heavy very quickly as the baby grows. If I get a pushchair suitable for a newborn, realistically, how long can I expect it to last before the baby grows out of it? Would I be better off using a sling for the first little while and then buying a pushchair for older babies?

Thanks in advance!

Most pushchairs suitable for a newborn usually require an insert to pad them out a bit. Remove the insert/cocoon and they usually last until 3yrs of age. Most mums are fed up of the heavy pushchairs by then and have already swapped for a lightweight Maclaren or something similar. Slings are great but I couldn't have managed without my pushchair. I was out of the house and walking everywhere by day 3 and with the change bag and everything else I would have been completely laden down. Go and have a good push round of a few pushchairs at a good nursery shop and see what you like. Good luck!

very much depends on your lifestyle do you walk alot or have to drive to most places? Or will you use public transport, what is the most important consideration to you? weight? rear facing? style?
