Would you buy the tandem buggy seat for your double pram?

I’m currently pregnant with baby number 2. Baby number 1 will be 21 months when their sibling is born. I have the silver cross wave pram which came with the carrycot and tandem buggy seat and converts into a double. So this will do us the first few months.

My question is do I get an additional buggy seat for when baby number 2 outgrows the carrycot so I can continue to use it as a double? Will a 2 year old still use a pushchair a lot?

I know some of the advice might be to wait and see nearer the time but now is the time family are offering to buy us things as gifts and money will be very tight for us when I’m in mat leave. Plus part of me is worried the pram gets discontinued and I can’t get the part.

Appreciate any advice!

I'd say you definitely want a double for when they are nearly 1yo and nearly 3yo. Most of the time the three year old will walk and then you can chuck the changing bag in that seat, but when you're at the shops/doctors/dentist you will really really want to be able to contain them both!

I have a 2.3 year gap between my two. I also have the Wave and still love my choice. I used it as a single, then with the tandem seat and carrycot. I used the two seats together for whole days out in the summer when I knew my dd wouldn't be able to walk all day. When my dd started dropping her naps but my ds was needing his nap I would take them for a walk in the double as it settled both of them. It was really handy to have this option. Some of my friends love their buggy boards but I never used one as my dd loved to push her toy pushchair and that built her stamina up. I also got her using a scooter which helped the transition from using the pushchair.

Which version of the Wave do you have? Mine is the original so we had to buy the second seat separately. I actually found it on eBay. Someone was selling it at a reduced price but it hadn't been used. I recently saw that the most recent version provides the second seat as standard.

You’re definitely right! I’m going to get it because the prospect of a loose 3 year old doesn’t sound fun.

I love my Wave too! That’s really helpful to know. I had looked at the buggy board but also heard it depends on how sensible your child is if they’ll stay on it.

I’m actually not sure what version I have but it was bought in 2023 and it doesn’t come with the second tandem seat - only the carrycot and one tandem seat. I haven’t looked on eBay yet, i will definitely do that!

Does anyone know if there is any way to attach the standard seats to the front position or do you need to buy the tandem seat?

Are wave 3 (current model) tandem seats compatible with wave (2018)?
