Uppababy bassinet for big baby?

Hi all! I’ve just started looking at prams for my first child. My partner and I really like the Uppababy Cruz/Vista, but the sales assistant we spoke to said that it doesn’t have the biggest bassinet, and as my husband and I are both quite tall it might not be a sensible choice.

My husband was an enormous baby (26in long!) but I was just wondering if the bassinet size was a genuine concern, or if this was the sales assistant trying to push us towards another (more expensive!) pram? Thanks!

I don't see why it would be an issue tbh. Is it really much smaller than other brands. I haven't had big babies but I'd really recommend any Uppababy products. They are very well made and thought out. We had the vista for our first. Sold it on when he turned 4. I've just had a baby and we got the minu and the ridge. The bassinet is suitable for overnight sleeping so you don't need a Moses basket and it's great for overnight stays at hotels etc.

i have the vista. DS was 99th centile in length and was in that bassinet until 6 months. I used to use it by itself instead of a crib / moses basket on the floor & when he woke he’d just crawl out.

We have an uppababy cruz and love it. Our baby was small but she fit in the bassinet until she was 6 months old so I don’t think a big baby would have any problems fitting at all. It’s a very regular sized bassinet.

That said, the pushchair can actually be laid flat and used from birth. We stopped using the bassinet because our baby never slept in it and bought a newborn insert to make the pushchair a bit more structured/comfy. With the benefit of hindsight I would have just done this from birth and not bothered with the bassinet.

Thanks all, that’s so useful! Hoping for my own sake the baby isn’t completely enormous anyway but definitely sounds like the sales assistant was on the upsell!

We have a Babyzen yo-yo and the Uppababy Vista - Uppababy vista bassinet is huge by comparison (though it's a huge buggy overall, I really don't like it because of this).

My 91st centile baby fit just fine, and the bassinet was bigger than pretty much everything bar the bugaboo! Plus the bottom basket is awesome and you can lie the toddler seat flat to use that from birth.

We had this, the good thing about the uppababy is that if you got the newborn insert you actually don’t need the bassinet and then the main seat is long enough until they’re about 4

DS2 and DDIL have the Uppababy Vista V2 for DGS. DS2 was a big baby, he was 24in long when he was born at 37weeks, and is now 6ft5.

DGS was a bit smaller when he was born, but he’s very long. He fits well in the carry cot bit, at 16 weeks, and still has some growing room. The best thing about the Uppababy, imo, is how they can adjust the handle height. Both DS2, and DDIL, who is only 4ft 11, can push it comfortably without straining their backs.

We have an Uppababy Cruz. My DD was a long baby but was still comfy in the bassinet for ages. She's a very tall 2.5 year old now and still sitting in her seat comfortably. We have a Babyzen also and whilst the latter is an excellent pushchair the Cruz definitely has more longevity for her height wise. Uppababy are fab pushchairs. Well designed and thought out. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Thanks @TheFairyCaravan this is so useful - we’re both tall (5’10 and 6’4) so the handle height is a big attraction for us too.

@GingerKombucha did you find the yoyo as sturdy as the uppababy? I’m conscious they’re pretty large prams but we live quite rurally so I like that it seems like it will cope with dodgy ground!

I've got the Vista V2 and had a pretty long baby, but tbh he was out of the bassinet and into the seat because he was raging about lying down long before he was too long for the bassinet itself. I think the Vista is one of the bigger prams so I'm a bit surprised the sales assistant said that! Did she recommend any others instead?

As others have said, the basket on the Vista is huge and definitely one of my favourite things. We are also semi-rural and it has handled a fair amount of off-road (though not as well as an Out n About or a Mountain Buggy I don't think).

I'm happy with ours but if I had my time again I'd probably go Cruz because the Vista is just massive in our house and the Cruz is a tiny bit more compact.

The Babyzen will not cope with anything semi rural. It's a city pushchair and can't cope with anything more than smooth pavements.
