I am debating whether to get brand where they sit vertically or side by side

Has anyone here used the Bill and Ted or an Out & About?

The Duet is great because it's a side by side that's the same width as a single. You'll fit it anywhere - doorways, on the bus, through the aisles in corner shops etc.
I personally don't like the tandem ones as feel that one child draws the short straw of being stuck with a view of the back of the other child's seat (and also they're low down so are right in line for car fumes if you're walking along busy roads).
