Double buggy - newborn and 2yo

Hi,

DC1 will be 2 years exactly when DC2 arrives in July. I have been looking online at double buggies. I'm assuming I'll need one as I think DC1 will still need a buggy sometimes in 4 months time? What did others with a similar age gap do? I think 2 is too young for the boards on the back of a pram?

Am thinking of getting it second hand though, as DC1 likes to walk and so definitely won't use it all the time.

I have a second hand bugaboo donkey. It's very wide and cumbersome. It takes forever to get in and out of the car so when my youngest is sitting up I will trade in for a Phil and Ted's or an out n about nipper. Friends rave about the icandy but they're still really expensive second hand.

Following! I’m due in May and also have a 2 year old, don’t really want to get a double pushchair and it’s the extra expense but can’t see a way around it. People are still selling second hand double pushchairs for nearly the RRP . Can’t see my wild toddler standing on a buggie board longer than 5mins

I have a Phil and teds and an out and about double nipper, both bought second hand. I ended up using the Phil and teds more when the youngest one was smaller, as he's got bigger I've used the out and about more. I like them both, and both have their pros and cons. The Phil and teds has the advantage of being able to be used as a single as well for occasions when you don't need a double.

I have been looking at a bugaboo donkey actually (I have the bee now and love it). The main advantage of the bugaboo donkey seemed to be that once sitting up you can still turn the youngest one's seat to face inwards? I don't really want DC2 to have to face out from 5/6 months, but maybe that is being too fussy?

Can you face in while sitting with the Phil and Teds?

No you can't with the Phil and Ted's which is why I'll keep the donkey until he's ready to face out but I hate getting it in and out of the car and I really hate the basket at the bottom. Tiny and inaccessible!

18 month gap

RedKite twinni or whatever it’s called, I think they only do one double. Both babies much more comfortable than in the individual bugaboo I use when I go out with just one of them. And it’s about £190.

I'll have an 18month gap between mine at looking at doubles, I've been recommended the mountain buggy double but I think with buying every part needed (I want a travel system, car seat etc) it's nearly a thousand, I think the side by side look more sturdy especially as they get bigger, anyone recommend side by side or tandem?

Mine are 20 months apart and I had mountain buggy duet with the new born bassinet for baby which I used for first 5 months. Loved the side by side (as did my toddler) , decent basket and narrow enough for a normal door

leah89 I have the MB duet (in addition dobthr icandy). I thought I would love it but it really don't.

1. It's really heavy to lift into the car boot as it folds In a large piece so hurts my back more than the icandy.

1. Ds keeps poking DD as it's too tempting her being right there apparently

1. It's fucking massive when folded and only just fits in my large boot.

1. If you don't get the non puncture wheels they can go flat

It is actually ok if you're more just walking out and about but I much prefer the peach

Hello. I have a 21 months (almost 2 years) and a 7 month old. I have an I candy double (peach I think). It is truly amazing. It is a bit heavy but I think most doubles are specially because of the weight of the babies. I got all the adaptors so you can put the carry cot and the car seat or a normal seat. It pushes great. I got a tandem because I take the bus and train often so that makes it a lot easier. The major problem for me is that the basket underneath is very small when used as a double. I bought it second hand, they’re not hard to find and you can get them for a fairly good price. My daughter does go on the buggy board now even when we are out for most of the day (or when we went out before this virus anyway). I candy (the newer models) has their own buggy board that attaches to the basket it’s so confortable and makes it so much easier. Even if your older one can’t go on a buggy board at the moment I would consider getting a double that can also be a single as when they get heavier you can always move him/her to the buggy board/walk. And that way you could sell the pram you have now, maybe

We have the city mini double I had 17 months between my second & third and honestly it was a godsend! From sitting son in with a snack whilst out and about and I fed the Baby or just the giant basket to store all their stuff in whilst on the move! It folds flat with one pull so really easy and sits at the bottom of the boot and doesn’t take up much space. It’s also stands up by itself when folded and fits through a standard doorway. Don’t scrimp too much, you want it to be workhorse it really can be so handy to have a decent double and there a plenty second hand!

There is 25 months between mine. I had a donkey (second hand) which I found really useful because of the flexibility. Often used it as a single and popped on whichever seat/carrycot needed.

I only used it until youngest was 6 months as oldest is a great walker and I also like using a sling. So as soon as youngest could go into the seat then buggy board/sling/pushchair was enough because if toddler needed the pushchair was having a tantrum then baby went in the sling. I could of used it for longer but I love the buffalo
