Which double buggy would you recommend?

Hi everyone!

We're making plans to research, test and review a new round of double buggies for 2020, so we'd love to hear which ones you'd recommend.

If you've used (and loved!) a particular product then please do tell us about it. This will help us to create a shortlist of double buggies to put to the test over the next few months so that we can recommend the best of the best to other parents.

Thank you!

Mountain buggy duet. It's not a running buggy but I run with it!

TinyPop14 · 28/02/2020 12:31

Bugaboo donkey, easy to push and I love the fact it can be both parent and world facing.

twins2019 · 28/02/2020 13:43

Bugaboo donkey all the way - it's a dream to push and so easy to handle. The only downside was when using car seat adapter - the extra inch that added to the width meant it wouldn't fit through a single width door!

We've also got the mountain buggy nano duo as a nip to the shops number or when we need more boot space. It folds into almost nothing and the twins love being so close now they are bigger.

weegiemum · 28/02/2020 15:26

None!

I walked/bussed everywhere with my dc, and used a single with a high quality backpack carrier. Much easier on public transport and even in the car (when with dh). In fact at one point I used buggy, sling and buggy board!

Bugaboo donkey!

Joie Aire for us, we used it only for a short time on holidays/days out etc for a toddler and young baby.

It was easy to manoeuvre, to put up and down and it wasn't too wide for most places.

It was also quite lightweight I think 11kg, which for a double isn't too bad (my daily ride for the baby is a cosatto giggle 2 which is 6kg, and very light).

It's also fairly affordable and with all Joie products you can replace parts fairly easily!

All in all we were very impressed and should we ever need another double we wouldn't shy away from the Joie Aire!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 28/02/2020 19:35

The Joie Aire is absolutely fantastic for the value and has a massive basket at the bottom. The only reason we switched to a second hand Out n About Double Nipper 360 is because we moved house and the paving stones near us are as even as Shane MacGowan’s teeth.

The Nipper 360 is the absolute nuts and I think it should have its own section on Top Gear, so good is it at handling rough terrain.

I loved my Bugaboo Donkey. We bought it as a single for my first so it lasted us almost 3 years until our first didn't need a buggy anymore and we downsized to an Ant. Even living in London there was only one time I had to convert it from double to single mode to fit somewhere. Amazing for all the seating options, a dream to push, looks great. I was really emotional when we sold it.

Out N About Nipper Double

KindnessCrusader · 29/02/2020 10:53

We've tried lots and lots and found the best for us was the Out n About. SO easy to steer and slim enough for (almost all-looking at you Dr's Surgery!) doorways!

Bugaboo donkey - especially for twins

Mountain buggy

WhatILoved · 29/02/2020 21:22

I'm a childminder. I had a mountain duet (first version) and though good it was a pain to store (big folded) and oh so heavy so I replaced it with the Nano and it's amazing. Goes through every doorway and folds very small. It's not too heavy to lift out of storage every week. Sturdy enough for up to 3 yr old - Which is fine for me as I like to get them walking by then

Mangoandlimes · 29/02/2020 22:31

Place marking as I need one!

mrsmonkey14 · 29/02/2020 22:53

Similar to pp. Loved my Bugaboo Donkey (even when living in London), also great for woodland and beach, liked that children were side by side and had proper carrycot for baby, and lots of options as they grew, inc the useful sit down buggy board (and side basket when in single mode). It fitted (just!) through my front door too! Never had issues fitting it anywhere, but didn’t attempt take it on buses (fine on tube and train).

Also like a pp we had a mountain buggy nano duo as a lightweight double, bought mainly for holiday travel but it folds up very small and is super lightweight and a dream to push. (Not much basket space etc tho)

Baby jogger city mini GT

I am also a childminder, and have had several single and double buggies over the 25 years I have been minding. I am currently on my 2nd Mountain Buggy Duet v4. I love it, it is a workhorse but still looks good. I use it mostly as a double at present, but have used it with the carrycot and also as a single with the Joey basket. I still have my original one and that gets used on the odd occasion when needed and it is still an excellent buggy. I love the fact that they can fit in small spaces and through narrow doorways. I use mine with the puncture proof wheels as my dh gets fed up with mending punctures, I don't feel that they affect the buggy's performance at all.

Mountain Buggy with carry cots

DameSylvieKrin · 01/03/2020 12:39

RedKite twinni is great value for money (£189) and has been fine.

NuffingChora · 01/03/2020 13:46

Mountain buggy duet V3. Great for tall children, really slim, the handbrake is absolute genius for control down hills, big basket, comfortable, adjustable handle bar, great on all terrain, hoods extend out far enough to give a decent amount of shade. The raincover is also incredibly well designed. Less bulky than the city mini double, better head room than the out n about, costs LOADS less than the donkey....

timeforanewjob · 01/03/2020 18:36

Out n about nipper

Slim, light, easy to push, turn, and fold

titnomatani · 01/03/2020 19:49

I've got an 18 month old and an 8 week old (madness)- this thread is very timely and I'll be following closely. @mumsnetHQ, if you need anyone to road test any of these pushchairs, I'd be more than happy to help!

MargotsBumpyNight · 01/03/2020 20:04

I'd be utterly lost without my Phil and Ted Dot

Bugaboo donkey users - can you have one child parent facing and one world facing? I don’t mean with a carry cot but when both kids are in the proper sit up seat. Thanks.

I have a 1 yr old and 3 yr old and a mountain buggy duet. It’s great for all the reasons people say but it’s not working for me as my 3 year old is likely autistic and if my 1 yr old cries the 3 yr old gets very distressed and lashes out at the 1 yr old. Sad

Considering a second hand donkey but not if my one yr old will still be within arms reach of 3 yr old. I’m back to single buggy and a sling in the meantime and fairly exhausted.
