Second hand pram - new mattress?

Hi all,

Apologies if this has already been asked - I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for.

If using a second hand pram from newborn age, do you need to get a new mattress / base for it? It wouldn't be used for sleeping in the house but I'm concerned about if baby falls asleep in it while we're out and about?

FTM so trying to get my head round it all!

Not sure what the official advice is but personally I would. You never quite know what's been on there!

They have removed this advice even for actual cots now as it was found to not have as big an effect as thought. It's really up to you. We didn't, it was plastic type cover, so I just wiped it down. We put a pillowcase over the top. if the mattress seems dented or anything I would though.
