Bucket seat or lie-flat for 6 months plus

Which is more comfortable for babies/young children? A lie-flat seat or a bucket seat?

N.b.I know babies need to be lying flat until they're 6 months.

Whats a bucket seat?

Babyl0ve · 15/03/2019 07:51

One that doesn't lie flat but tips back in the same position. For example the Bugaboo Cameleon.

I know they're popular but to me they don't look very comfortable and I wonder if it's better for a child's posture for them to be flat when they're sleeping...

I can't see anything about which style pram is best. I'm trying to decide between a Cameleon and an Oyster 3.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

How long are they really going to be sleeping in it when they're 6months+ though? DD has been in her Cosatto Wow 'seat' part since 4 months old as she outgrow the carrycot by then. Kept her in the flattest it went til she was 6 months. Now at 9 months I often have it in the most sitting-up position when she's awake but when she sleeps I put it reclined or in the flattest position. But realistically she's not sleeping in it for hours and hours every day or anything so can't see that it's significant. She also has a Joie nitro for occasional short trips and that we used on holiday which lays flat, she seems to have more space in the Cosatto really as it's wider, she sleeps fine in either though.

Oh defo a bucket seat then!! My DD would always wake up with the lie flat as obvs your moving the top half of the body and not the bottom were as with the bucket seat you don't actually move there body just the seat xx @babyl0ve

I'm a FTM and I don't know anything so I have no idea haha!

@HJWT I hadn't thought about having to move the baby's body, I see what you mean. So hard to decide what's best!

@babyl0ve if you look into it all of the 'big brands' have bucket seats! We had iCandy with DD and will be getting Bugaboo this time xx

Baby Ah, well the answer is not tons really! My DD sleeps particularly little for a baby and always has done, but even if you had a good sleeper at 6+ they're not going to be having more than 3 decent naps a day (and often less, if you get one like my DD who barely naps), so you'd have to have them in the pram for like a whole entire day from morning until evening for it to be a significant amount of sleep, and that would be quite rare really, surely? I'd say even on a very busy day she isn't sleeping for more than an hour and a half in it in the whole day and it's usually much less than that but then she doesn't nap much as I say. You could maybe double that for a good-napper child but it's still not that long in the course of a day and you won't be doing that every single day. So I mean I wouldn't be concerned about posture or anything for that small amount of time iyswim.

As long as there spine is flat so from there bottom to there neck then its fine, hence why the bucket seats start at there bottom! X
