Is this the best double buggy?

LauraEMumsnet · 07/02/2019 10:00

We reviewed the best double buggies on the market and would love to hear your thoughts.

We put 10 products to the test following your recommendations on the Talk boards and ultimately awarded the Out n About Nipper Double Best Double Buggy 2019.

But do you agree with our findings? Did you find these reviews useful? Is there anything you think we've missed? Is anything unclear?

We want to make sure that our reviews are as useful and as detailed as they can be, so we'd love to hear your feedback.

Thanks!
MNHQ

I hear a lot about the uppababy vista it would have been nice to hear a review on that pram. Any chance you will be reviewing any more?

LauraEMumsnet · 18/02/2019 14:47

Hi OneMoreWish - sorry for the delayed reply. We're actually testing travel systems at the moment so watch this space.

I found your review very useful - you've covered everything I wanted to know - but this buggy wouldn't work for me. I'm British but I live abroad in a country where summers are hot and winters are freezing. The things I have to take into consideration are: (1) Will it easily fit through the doors of my apartment, lifts, shops, buses, and on narrow pavements? A lot of people here think that tandem strollers, as they call them, are very antisocial! (2) Will it fit into my car? Ideally without having to take the wheels off when they're covered in mud and snow. (3) How will it cope in heavy snow? For this reason I have no choice but to fork out for the Uppababy Vista or similar when my newborn arrives (though I hate the idea of him/her being so low to the ground)! I also think the air-filled wheels and the lack of a storage basket on this are a huge drawback.

Thank you though I'm sorry I meant the uppababy vista as a double pram x

I agree. OaA all the way.

SparkyBlue · 19/02/2019 18:16

Out n About double is absolutely amazing

Stinkytoe · 22/02/2019 10:00

I have a Mountain buggy duet which I believe is slightly slimmer (which is key when squeezing through tiny doors)

It also has car seat adapters which I found very handy in the early days with my twins.

smokealarm · 22/02/2019 13:13

I love my iCandy Peach double!

TammySwansonTwo · 22/02/2019 13:49

I have the nipper double (won from Mumsnet actually) and it is mostly great, but none are ideal. It’s not particularly comfy, hard to get the seats up when they’re in them and reclined, very little storage and it got two flat tyres randomly out of nowhere sadly. It’s also marginally too wide for my hall which means I have to set it up outside which isn’t ideal. Quite big when folded too - but it’s so light and easy to steer.

We also have the City Select which is great in many ways but impossible to even get up a high kerb for me.

Gottalovesummer · 22/02/2019 16:22

I'm a cm and have used many different double buggies.

I'm currently using the hauck tandem. It's fantastic. Front seat reclines flat (useful for young babies) back seat has more room than other tandem buggies.

Best of all, solid wheels, no more flat tyres or punctures. Hooray.

And narrow enough to fit through narrow doors.

Me and my mindees love it.

SingingMyOwnSpecialSong · 22/02/2019 16:52

Love my out n about. I’ve got a single just now, but had the double while working as a nanny and taking my own DD. So easy to push, even fully laden with school bags and scooters. Both bought as bargains on gumtree/Facebook and the double resold for almost the same as I bought it for. I had the carrycot and car seat attachments when DD was little.

Tires can be a bit of a pain, especially as I mainly use mine for dog walks in the woods. I carry a pump, mini repair kit and spare tube, but had my tyres ‘slimed’ by a bike shop and that prevents most punctures (although not great if it’s been sitting in the garage in freezing temperatures, have to pump them up again and spin). Think Out n About sell tyres ready slimed.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/02/2019 17:32

I agree, out and about all the way.

noenergy · 22/02/2019 17:40

@Stinkytoe I have been looking at the pushchair, how have you found it to manoeuvre and use?

RicStar · 22/02/2019 17:44

I loved my Phil and Ted - as a Londoner with steps and a narrow doorway it was indestructible (We changed the tyre to puncture proof ones). As my older one would often walk it didn't feel like I was dragging a huge buggy unnecessarily and I could stack up the bottom seat but it was there if needed. I don't believe there is one best buggy in any category - it depends on so many factors.

Snowoctopus · 22/02/2019 19:54

I agree, the double Out N About is excellent! I also have the single and both are fantastic buggies 😊

Stinkytoe · 22/02/2019 20:12

@noenergy it’s very easy to manoeuvre, even when I have my 4yo on a buggy board alongside the twins.

I have struggled with the tyres, I had them slimed in the end as I was getting repeated punctures in the rear tyres (probably due to the weight of the aforementioned 4yo)

It fits through my front door which was key for me as my girls fall asleep when out and about lol

llangennith · 22/02/2019 20:55

Mountain buggy. All pros, no cons.
A lot of people like the Out n About but I found it a bit unstable going up and down kerbs.

concernedforthefuture · 22/02/2019 21:07

Mountain Buggy Duet is fab. Very slim (possibly the slimmest side-by-side), fits in a small car boot, you can add a car seat (although it's a bit fiddly), there are a good range of rain covers to suit all modes, you can get a carrycot for a newborn, add a scooter-cum-buggy board for an older child, it's great on rough terrain and super-easy to push. Oh, and it converts into a single (sort of).

Propertywoes · 22/02/2019 21:49

I've got a Phil and Ted in line double similar to the dash and it's amazing.

PolarBearDisguisedAsAPenguin · 22/02/2019 22:13

@OneMoreWish I had an Uppababy Vista as a tandem but sold it and bought the Out N About. The Uppababy is a great pram, especially as a single, but it is very difficult to steer and has no suspension so it hard work with two children in it, unless one is still a young baby. Happy to answer aby specific questions you have about it though.

IamPickleRick · 22/02/2019 22:24

I didn’t go for the uppababy as my friend had the single and said stuff gets caught in the wheels a lot.

Baby jogger city mini for me. Looks huge but even managed to fit in the tiny ancient lift in the British library!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 23/02/2019 08:04

Mountain Buggy duet all the way. You can buy them off the shop floor in my local Mothercare now too, so not difficult to find.

SequinsDress · 23/02/2019 09:19

Mountain Buggy Duet definitely. Advantages over the the Out & About include a parent facing seat option and the fact it is so narrow. Much better storage too!

jaynetheghostofagathachristie · 23/02/2019 09:37

I have number 7 city double I love it it's very roomy and very easy to push I was lucky I didn't have to buy New as couldn't have afforded it
