Is this the best double buggy?

LauraEMumsnet · 07/02/2019 10:00

We reviewed the best double buggies on the market and would love to hear your thoughts.

We put 10 products to the test following your recommendations on the Talk boards and ultimately awarded the Out n About Nipper Double Best Double Buggy 2019.

But do you agree with our findings? Did you find these reviews useful? Is there anything you think we've missed? Is anything unclear?

We want to make sure that our reviews are as useful and as detailed as they can be, so we'd love to hear your feedback.

Thanks!

Don't even have twins/more than one (but have worked repairing pushchairs and selling prams once upon a time)

No way would I pick the out and about over a mountain buggy duet 🤔

StuntCroissant · 23/02/2019 13:48

Another vote for Mountain Buggy Duet. I've yet to find a space I can't fit through with it and I like the 4 weeks unlike the Out and About or whatever it's called.

Onemoremakesthree · 23/02/2019 14:25

Another vote for the mountain buggy duet, as a childminder mine has had all sorts of combinations of kids/babies in it and never had any trouble pushing with one or two hands. It’s the only double (bar p&t) in my village that fits down a particularly narrow pavement which was a major factor in choosing it.

Onemoremakesthree · 23/02/2019 14:27

Also I might have just been lucky but I’m yet to have a puncture and it spends a lot of time off road/in woods etc

Shmithecat2 · 23/02/2019 15:14

If width were a concern, I'd choose the Mountain Buggy duet, if not, the Baby Jogger City Mini GT double. The seats and the hoods on the OAA are awful. Seats too slumped, and the hoods are useless, they offer no shade whatsoever unless the sun is directly above or behind you.

Stinkytoe · 23/02/2019 15:30

They’ve not actually included the mountain buggy in their review

user1492346620 · 23/02/2019 19:15

How is the mountain buggy duet not even in the top 10?!!

HarryHarry · 23/02/2019 23:00

@PolarBearDisguisedAsAPenguin Is the Uppababy really hard to steer? Some reviews say it’s great! Now I don’t know what to do!

Strippervicarrs · 24/02/2019 06:07

Didn’t work for us. I candy peach blossom has been a godsend!

singingismypassion · 24/02/2019 10:41

I loved my double mountain buggy. I recommend the one with large wheels.

Out 'n' about nipper- I felt was unbalanced with only one front wheel

Voyley · 24/02/2019 19:04

We have found reviews very useful in terms of giving some piece of mind to help navigate the wide range of products out there. For us, the Uppa Baby Vista ticked all of the boxes. Lighter weight frame, plenty of features and the ability to make it a double.

LaPufalina · 24/02/2019 19:28

My mountain buggy duet is brilliant. When it snowed a couple of weeks ago I was quicker pushing it than the cars trying to drive! I used it over our silver cross pioneer even just with one of the babies in it.

Citytwin · 24/02/2019 20:08

I can’t understand why mountain buggy wasn’t included in the review. I’ve got the V3 duet and it’s brillant for twins. So narrow it can go anywhere, easy to push even with one hand. We had the carry cots for when mine were small and they slept so well in them when out and about. Even now in normal seats they are so comfortable. Good size storage basket. My only cons with it are it’s heavy to lift (15kg I think) although not heavy to push even with two toddlers in it.

iamapixiebutnotaniceone · 24/02/2019 23:59

I have a Joolz Geo 2. It ticked all of the boxes for functionality for us BUT for an expensive pram it is such poor quality. The seat frayed within 20mins of our toddler being in it and the frame has rust that has epupted over the very slight and unavoidable scuff marks that were caused by the plastic part that moves down when folding the pram and also where the wheels are attached to the frame. When we contacted Joolz about the rust issue we were told ‘it was not rusty when sold’. Now I’m stuck with an £1100 pram that is rusty and frayed and Joolz will offer no solution.

Boulardii · 25/02/2019 17:05

Don’t know about the mountain buggy, but have experience of a lot of different buggiesand rated both mothercare urban detour as a double, which was fantastic, and out n about as a single, which is even better. So I wouldn’t be surprised if the nipper 360 was the best.

I’m not one for lots of traipsing round shops or travelling by bus though.

I’m not sure there can be categorically a best buggy, because it depends what you use it for...

Unihorn · 25/02/2019 19:52

My Mountain Buggy duet is far easier to manoeuvre than my single Mamas and Papas buggy, and I love the handbrake when going down hills. It's also the narrowest tandem and fits through our door. I wouldn't have any other tandem.

Eatmycheese · 26/02/2019 22:38

And yet another one for the mountain buggy duet.

A fantastic sturdy but responsive buggy. Ours has been absolutely hammered but still going strong.

padfootprongs · 27/02/2019 12:44

I agree, I love my out n about!

Skylucy · 28/02/2019 12:03

Another vote for the Mountain Buggy Duet! I absolutely love it, and have used it every day since the birth of my second (when my first was 20 months old). I did buy a lot of extras though. I've got the "luxury" version that has puncture-proof tyres, and I've got the carrycot (that converts into a forward-forward-facing seat) and the Joey basket that makes the pram a single. I regret not buying a footmuff, and will probably shell out for raincovers! So, not cheap. BUT, it's super slim, super easy to fold, super easy to push, and will adapt easily as my children grow. I have good friends with the Uppababy Vista and they rave about it (and were savvy enough to buy this first time around - I bought a non-convertible travel system for baby #1, not expecting a small age gap!!), but it is hard to get up kerbs and steps, and particularly spirited babes aren't always happy to be wrestled into the lower seat! The weight distribution of the MBD is good, and there's no need to fight for the "best/ highest" seat.

WitBeyondMeasure · 28/02/2019 21:55

Nope,bugaboo donkey hands down.

Rainatnight · 13/03/2019 11:47

This thread has been SO helpful but I've not figured out whether tandem or side by side would be best.

DD is 2.9 and DS is 8 months. Ideally I'd like parent facing for DS but that's hard to find without spending huge amounts of money.

I don't know whether it'd be nice to have them side by side, sacrificing any chance of DS being parent facing, or tandem. It seems like he could be very low down on the tandem.

The other complication is that DD is 15kg which is the upper limit for lots of doubles.

Any thoughts? How have people found side by side v tandem?

Unihorn · 13/03/2019 15:12

We went side by side in the end but there was only 17 months between ours so we knew we'd need the double buggy for at least a year. With an older child is probably go for a tandem on the basis that I'd want it to convert to a single within a few months.

We had the carrycot for the mountain buggy, which is parent facing but is outgrown by about 4 months. I think they also offer another form of insert though for older children which faces you. I'm not certain though!
