Double pushchair in a small car

I am currently pregnant with dc2 and an looking at possibly buying a double pushchair as there will only be an 18 month age gap.

My original plan is to sling the baby and keep my dd in her current travel system which I love, but am researching a double option so if we find we cant manage this way I've already done the research.

I've been round my local Mothercare and John Lewis to look at them and the only ones they had were either unsuitable for under 6 months or the iCandy peach type doubles which I had already discounted for being too big as a single when looking for my dds pushchair.

I have Peugeot 206 and I can cope if I need to take wheels off as I already do with our single.

If the boot is full of pushchair and the back is full of car seats where does your luggage/shopping go? A roof box seems an option but they're quite a pain to put things in an out of.

I'm asking because this is a question I had when looking for a single pushchair and decided it was easier to just go for a bigger but older car.

I can't afford a new car until I've gone back to work. I don't have roof bars on my car and so the cost of roof bars and box is more then we can afford. I'm looking at getting the pushchair 2nd or 3rd hand

currently we can squeeze the shopping around the pushchair and use the rear passenger seat and front passenger seat when it's just me.

We won't be doing any long journeys until we have the bigger car so it will be just for popping to the shops/doctors etc. So it also needs to have decent wheels as the walk to town is along a gravel path and up and down a fairly steep hill

I used to have a 3dr Vauxhall Corsa and a double buggy!! Worked OK for me.

Take your car to a Mothercare (or similar) where you can park outside and see if they will let you try to put a double buggy in the boot - obviously accompanied by a member of staff.

I've already been to Mothercare and the only doubles they had were the ones which the single version was too big for my car so the double will definitely not fit. Or the pushchair wasn't suitable from birth.

Recommend the baby jogger city mini. Fit in my hatchback without removing any wheels (they pop off very easily if needed though). Folds easily and flat so shopping can go on top in boot (or use front passenger seat? Or online groceries...?? )

I had a VW polo and used to have a double baby jogger. We took the parcel shelf out and then used to stand the buggy up and bungee cords to tie it to the back seats so it was secure. I didn't have much boot left, but it worked.

Baby jogger city mini went in a Yaris 8 years ago. Worth a look.
Didn't take pushchair shopping - they went in the trolley. Stuff could go in the passenger seat, or beneath the kids feet in the back footwells.

Just updating this in case anyone else has had a similar problem. None of the suggested pushchairs fitted. We tried every single one in Mothercare. John Lewis didn't have any different ones to try and that's the extent of my options

However, the Bugaboo Donkey did, providing both seats and back wheels came off and the frame was put into the single mode! So we have an option. Hoping we can cope with a single and sling, and then single and buggy board as the Donkey isn't really affordable even 2nd hand
