Buggy for a 3 year old

Please could I have some up-to-date recommendations for a buggy suitable for my tall DD, she’s just turned 3. I’ve read threads from 8 years ago and many of the buggies don’t exist now. Please don’t tell me she should be walking. This is purely for one day a week when my mum, who is 70, takes her to meet her dad. My mum doesn’t drive, it’s not on a bus route and she is too big to be carried if she gets tired/refuses to walk. My mum also has to take the bag of ‘stuff’ required for that age, including swimming stuff in case he maybe wants to take her swimming. I do have a mamas and papas swirl but my mum feels DD is too big for it now and my mum says it’s too difficult for her to push. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Always found Baby Jogger really roomy for my tall son. The City Mini Zip is great, folds really small and the basket holds lots too (not so great for off road/uneven ground); the City Mini GT is very light to push (my Mum likes this one) especially when your child gets heavier, can cope with all sorts of terrain but isn't a massive pushchair.

An out n about nipper would be great, they’re so roomy for an older child and very easy to push as thy are a jogger style. We got ours from eBay nearly new so saved a fortune and used it right up until ds was 5 (he has autism and would often refuse to walk).

DSis has a Joie Brisk LX for tall 3yo nephew.

It's not designed for off road but handles kerbs and uneven pavement and things fine and is very light and easy to fold so great for about town and occasional use and dn likes it and seems very comfy in it.

It's 'only' £120 too so fairly cheap as far as buggies go.

Babyjoggers are fab for tall children. Had the outnabout nipper and now have the babyjogger city mini GT and I think the latter is bigger.

Can you go to somewhere like John Lewis and try a few different ones out?

My mum loves using the babyzen yo-yo. Very light, easy to manoeuvre, easy to fold and put up one-handed if necessary.

I think the slivercross umbrella fold one we had fits a child up to 20kg in.

Can’t really beat the Maclaren Techno XT. It’s seen me through two tall kids and handles like a dream.

We have a Maclaren, which we bought for similar reasons as my DM was struggling with our Mamas and Papas pushchair. We bought it second-hand and while it's much lighter, I would not recommend it for a tall child. My DS is exactly the same age as your daughter and is average height, and he can drag his toes on the floor. So I would advise you try before you buy!

I hear good things about the Silver Cross Pop, though don't have one myself. From memory, it has a generous size seat for a stroller.

We have used a Silver Cross Pop to/from nursery with DD up until 3y10m and she’s 91st centile for height and weight. The only thing not great is the wheels are a bit rattley on uneven surfaces but it’s fine on pavements/footpaths and has a good basket and rain cover. If it’s only going to be used occasionally you should be able to get one cheap 2nd hand. If you’re near Glasgow I’m selling ours, now DD walks to nursery!

Baby Joggers fold really easily; they have a one hand fold - you just pull a strap up in the seat and that's it done.

Would also say easier to push than something like the pop with two handles. The single bar handle I found useful if I had to push the buggy one handed and still hold the hand of my toddler when they wanted to walk.

Tried my son in a yoyo the other day and it's tiny. Great design though.

OP yes the babyjogger folds like a dream, you just pick it up by a handle and it all folds up immediately.

I've got both a nipper single and a bjcm and while they both have big seats and the bjcm folds really well, I find the nipper a much easier push.

Another vote for baby jogger city mini. My 5 year old can sit comfortably in it (tried her as taking it to London with us so she can use it if tired and I’ll carry the baby). I’ve got normal version which is good but gt is even better. Can pick one up second hand easily, fold is amazingly easy and they push well. Decent basket for bags of stuff too

MB mini has a very long back. The fold is also smaller than an umbrella stroller. It could be an option :)

I have the city baby jogger gt which is huge my 4 year old fits fine when restraint is needed

Baby jogger City mini GT, we have this for the very same reason. DS1 went in it only with his grandparents up until he was 3 and a bit. DS2 will do the same thing.
It is really easy to fold, you just pull a handle in the middle and it's done. It's easy to push around as well.

We got a mountain buggy nano recently and I've found it great for pushing one- handed while holding older child's hand. It usually has our baby in it but tall 3.5yo can fit in it comfortably when the baby is in the sling. It's very light and easy to fold too. I prefer it to our maclaren although it's not great off road so best for around town.

Baby Jogger (City Mini or City Mini GT)! (how original :-D). But a Maclaren is great too, or even the Mamas&Papas Urbo Bug..?

Another vote for baby jogger city mini gt here! We have a tall 3 year old who we need to evict in the next few months for the new baby. She loves it. It’s brilliant from birth too as it lies flat (we use the deluxe carrycot add on). Imo one of the most versatile and practical buggies on the market. Pushes and folds like a dream.
