Can you get a pram re-upholstered?

We're looking for a side by side double pram but we're having trouble finding we like that's not black.
I was wondering if we find one we like, but not in a colour we like if we'd be able to get it re-upholstered?

Can't you just put a pram liner in? If you have a look on etsy some people make custom hoods / liners but I guess it depends on the make of the pram!

BikeRunSki · 05/08/2018 19:47

With some you can get alternative covers (cloths I think they are called). Or there is a whole world of “customs” out there!

RosieRainDrop · 05/08/2018 19:49

The outside bit of the carrycot would still be black though if we did that

look here

flamingofridays · 05/08/2018 19:57

What pram is it?

I'm sure someone who upholstery furniture would be able to do it!

RosieRainDrop · 05/08/2018 20:11

We haven't decided on one in particular yet, just thinking this might give us a bit more choice.
I'll have a look for furniture upholsterers around here and ask if it'd be possible for them to do it

For how long babies are in the carry cot, is it worth it? My baby lasted 8 weeks!

Brendatheblender · 05/08/2018 20:13

The bugaboo donkey comes in all sorts of colours and designs

I was thinking this! I think DS managed 4 months, of the three years we used it!

starsinyourpies · 05/08/2018 20:34

Likewise we used this for 4 months. Save your money for wine and babysitting.

BertieBotts · 05/08/2018 20:39

In the nicest possible way this is a bit insane Grin

I do understand wanting a nice pram - but carrycots? They use them for about 2-3 months.

Get a lovely pram liner or a funky moses basket sheet and some nice blankets and/or cosytoes to brighten up the insides, as that's where you'll be looking anyway. As a bonus you can use a pram liner, blanket, and cosytoes on a normal pushchair too later on.

I do share your point that a lot of the pram colours this year are dull as ditchwater - everything I found was black or grey with the occasional navy blue. You might find that a model from 2010-2016 is brighter, as bright colours seemed to be more the in thing then.

BertieBotts · 05/08/2018 20:53

Some with non-black colour options side by side:

Baby Jogger City Mini Double
Cosatto Supa Dupa Twin
Mountain Buggy Duet
Maxi Cosi Dana For 2
Bugaboo Donkey
Out n About Nipper Double

BikeRunSki · 05/08/2018 21:02

Nipper 360 double comes in loads of colours and is an excellent pram/pushchair, although the carry cots only come in black, but as above, they are only in them for 2 mins.

BikeRunSki · 05/08/2018 21:03

X post Bertie, who has also listed other brands/models I was going to.

BikeRunSki · 05/08/2018 21:09

Mountain Buggy Duet pram bit and carry cots available in black, blue or silver grey. Tbh the silver grey will be filthy in no time.

RosieRainDrop · 05/08/2018 21:43

Dd1 still fits in her carrycot at 6m but tbf she is quite a small baby in quite a large pram.

I'll have a look at the prams that have been mentioned.

With all the fiddly bits, hoods, straps and cushioned parts of a pram, it would be a very time consuming job, even for a furniture upholsterer. They would also need to source some very hardwearing, thick and semi waterproof material, not what they’d be used to using on interior furnishings. Taking those things into account, you could pay nearly the same amount again in getting it recovered as you did on the pram itself. Changing the material might also invalidate any warranty.

I’d second getting a nice liner for the interior of the pram- I picked up a pink memory foam one with pelicans on it from mamas and papas and it really makes a big difference at a fairly small cost.

Astrid2 · 05/08/2018 22:02

Even if she still fits in it, does she like it? My DD is 4 months and loves being upright in her buggy looking around and seeing what's going on. She never lies flat except when she's asleep 🙈
