Help! I just want something practical

In due my second child in January and have searched high and low for a practical puchchair.

With my first i bought a full travel system, but I never used the carrycot, or the pushchair seat..ever! Such a waste of money I lifted the car seat out of the car clipped it to the wheel frame and off I went. Then at 6 months old we brought a umbrella fold pushchair and never looked back.

This time I want a umbrella fold pushchair suitable from birth that I can clip the car seat too on the school run. I'll have 4 kids to get out of the car (daughter, 2 nieces and newborn). I don't want to be assembling a travel system in the car park twice a day for a 20min turn around.

But this appears to be gold dust, can anyone help?

The Joie Brisk LX is a good quality chunky travel system that comes with everything you need, footmuff/raincover and a decent quality car seat in the Joie Gemm.

A friend of mine has used it for 18 months with her wee one so far without issue, I don't normally like two handles but this feels quite sturdy imho.

I know you asked for umbrella good but the baby jogger city mini gt is the best ever. Folds with one hand with one, is very compact, good to push. It's got a long life too because the seat is big.
I'm a cm and have had loads of prams, if I ever need to replace this, it'll be with the same one!

I wonder whether non-umbrella fold pushchairs might have come on a bit.

I've got a Jane epic which folds neatly with the pushchair seat attached and unfolding it can be done one-handed in literally 2 seconds, or if you want to use the car seat on the wheels it's literally a case of just dropping the car seat into two slots which again takes no time at all. The epic pushchair seat isn't lie flat but the Jane Muum pushchair is and uses the same easy fold and carseat attachment.

With Jane you have a choice of three car seats that are compatible with the wheels.

I agree. I used my Baby jogger city mini from birth to 3yrs. Folds with one hand. Plus the hood is massive and I never needed a rain cover. i totally loved it!

I'd look at the City Mini GT too. I find being able to push one handed incredibly useful as it gives you a hand to hold a toddler with (or a coffee, or an ice cream....). You can get car seat adapters which fit the Maxi Cosi style ones, so also take Besafe and I think Cybex seats. You do have to take the adapters off to fold it though, and it is a little top heavy with the cat seat on.

I was looking at the Cybex umbrella fold today where you can attach the car seat. It was on mothercare’s website.

I’m pretty sure one of the maclarans does it too.

I’ve also had a Quinny Zapp Extra2 and used a Maxi Cosi car seat with that for a holiday.

Just here to also recommend baby jogger city mini! 2 children and never needed another pushchair. God forbid you get something that needs 2 hands to push like most umbrella folds - who has two hands to spare with a second child!

Might be a bit bigger than you want buy I have the mamas and papa armadillo flip xt. The seat goes from flat to upright. I still use the flat position at 10 months for doing nappy changes out and about. It can be used forward and rear facing and when forward facing you can fold it down with one hand. I had the cybex car seat with it. I think maxi cosi fits too.

Only had an hour today in mothercare, managed to rule out the Silvercross Reflex, I couldn't get the car seat off. I was looking at the city bother but had to get to work so I'll definitely go back and have a proper look! I also liked the Nuna.

I really want something that will last until the pushchair isn't needed. I'm tempted by the Cosatto To and Fro single but can't find one in real life to look at.

Another vote for the City Mini. Total workhorse of a pushchair and while you can get a bassinet, it lays almost flat anyway.

I used our CityMini until DS1 was well over 3 for DS1 (for long days out) and he’s ridiculously tall. DS2 is just two and has acres of space still.

If you're willing to opt for non umbrella I also recommend the city mini.

Used it with both of mine until 4yo and still had growing room, just passed it onto my nephew so it's a hardy thing. I had adapters so I could chuck the maxi Cosi Cabriofix on top and it worked well.

Every time I see a city mini I will now wonder if a mumsnetter seeing the popularity!
