age/size for graduating from the carry cot?

Hi folks - we have a Nipper Single: www.outnabout.com/products/nipper-single.asp and love it.

I'm trying to plan an overseas holiday in April (when the baby will be 4 1/2 months old) and wondering - at what age/size do people generally move from using a carry-cot, to just using the main stroller seat? The Nipper does recline to a flat position - is it likely we'll be able to use it without the cot at that age, or is he going to still be too small?

Depends on the baby and the pushchair really. My boy outgrew his carrycot at about 4 months, then we reclined the pushchair bit and bought an insert that supported his head and made him more comfy.

It depends on the size of the carry cot and the size of the baby. Ideally you should mover them when they are able to sit unaided but most carry cots are too small. A carry cot is far more comfortable for a baby than a reclined seat. Think of bed with mattress vs reclining sunlounger to sleep on. Also some buggies are only parent facing when in carrycot mode and a young baby will feel quite overwhelmed if unable to see a familiar face.

About 4 months here as well, but with an insert (from the car seat!)

We moved on at about 5 months but DS wasn't a particularly big baby and the seat bit of the pram (Uppababy Vista) reclined fully so he was fine. I think you would be fine but if you will be using the pram for sleeping (as opposed to just taking the baby places) them i would keep the carry cot bit going until after the holiday.

If you're flying check the luggage allowance. It was a holiday at 5 months - also in April - that spurred us to stop using the carrycot. We were driving and needed the space in the car. Then shortly after we flew to morroco and it was great just taking the pushchair. If it lies flat you should be fine. DD had no problem transitioning and slept for ages on the pushchair seat no bother, hopefully yours will be the same!

About 4 months - ds was sitting up and had good head control and was getting pissed off lying down!
Depends completely on the baby though.

MIne fittied and used until 8-9 months. I think it's comfier and easier to keep them warm or cool.
But the nipper is fine from birth. I would just leave carrycot at home for the week and use without, then carry on using on return.

However also depends on holiday. At 4 months we used the carrycot as main bed when travelling so saves taking anything else also. Plus meant could let baby fall asleep in pjs in restaurants ready for bed, then just wheel pram next to bed when back in hotel and they carry on sleeping
