Need pushchair help- so lost

I really am lost on the whole pushchair buying front. I don't have a car so needs to easily fold to accommodate long bus/ train journeys. Needs to be light. I'm short so can't have a super tall handle either.

My son will be 3.5 when the baby is born and we have a very long walk to nursery so ideally would have a bar he could stand on/ could have a buggy board thing attached.

Any advice please?

Budget I'm not sure. Would like £300 max but friends say it's impossible to get anything decent with that

I don't think any would have a bar a 3.5 year old should really stand on without it bending.

I would get one that doesn't have a baby carrycot, but just lies fully flat. Then you can add a sheepskin liner and use for baby. But take a decent sling ( not baby bjorn), and can transfer baby into sling and elder use the pushchair if needed

Second hand bugaboo bee.
Fab pram can attach buggy board.

Yes a bugaboo bee is probably best. Second hand is in budget. They take up very little floor space on a bus.

Don't get a baby jogger. They fold small but when baby lies down the length of pram is huge and many struggle on a bus

Another suggestion for second hand Bee - works brilliantly with a buggyboard (Lascal mini is best I think) as it has a very extendable handle. And as it has such a small "footprint" with the handle collapsed, I can squeeze it onto a bus when other buggies definitely wouldn't fit. And it's light.

Do you have a buggy at the moment?

I also don't have a car and use public transport a lot. Have you looked into using a sling or baby carrier? So much easier than a pushchair on public transport.

I only have one child but I got a city mini baby jogger as it's good for public transport as it's narrow. You can walk down the aisle of a bus with it. But as a pp said above it is a little long. These days I use a mclaren as they're so light but I don't know if you can put a buggy board on those.

I am very short (under 5 foot) would I be able to use a sling? Will look into it. The pushchair my son had was a silvercross thing. I never really liked it was a huge and heavy contraption.

Bee is great for shorties (I am short) as the handle goes very low (and also pretty high). Lowest of all I tried iirc.

Sling and older child in buggy is doable - I have the Beco Gemini which fits petite people well and is super comfy - but remember you'd need to carry all the DCs' kit rather than putting in the buggy. Also your DS at 3.5+ may prefer the buggy board to being in a buggy.

The Bee does have the benefit that DS could go in it if needed - if you get a Bee Plus model (2012 onwards) then the back and seat extend easily and will fit pre schoolers. And it has a cocoon which lies on top of the seat rather than a structured carrycot so you just whip out the cocoon if you want to use it for DS, rather than having to swap from carrycot to seat.

Bee may feel quite rickety but it's actually very well built and feels less rickety the bigger your child gets.

My older child hates his buggy at the moment and doesn't use it at all. Bu g I know when he starts nursery and we have a 35 min (at least) walk his legs might get tired so maybe the buggy board is the best option.I just wish money wasn't such a big issue. Is eBay the best place to look for second hand buggies?

Yes if you get the bee get the soft carry cot not the fixed new option. That way you can sit eldest ontop of the soft one or shove in underneath easy enough

I'm 5'4. Used a sling loads for both of mine. I recommend looking at the boba 4g, Tula brand or similar. That's are called 'soft structure slings'. And support the weight at waist not shoulders. You may have a 'sling meet' group nearby you can go and try several on

Bugaboo are really well made also, so I would have no hesitation buying second hand. eBay probably best.
We had the bigger cameleon, used 5 years between children and passed on to a friend and it was as new. She has used about 2 years now and says it's still as new and fabulous

Oh and you can buy the fabrics like hoods new seperatly. So if you found a bugaboo bee at a decent price second hand but faded hood for example, you could just buy a new hood for it
