Tiny boot, which pushchair?

Hi all, first time mum here, completely clueless despite best efforts. I have a TINY car, Kia Picanto, not in a post on to change car, any advice on which pram / buggy / system thing may fit? My local Mothercare is in the middle of a shopping centre otherwise I'd love to park outside and try for myself. Thanks in advance

I used to have a ford KA and I could fit an oyster 2 including either seat or carry cot too. It did involve removing the parcel shelf though. A bugaboo bee would also fit or an Armadillo of any kind.

I have a Citroen C1 with laughable boot, and I got a Hauck Condor. Not the most attractive travel system but it did fit.

Something like the Mamas and Papas Armadillo Flip if you need a travel system? Baby Jogger zip has a really neat fold if you just need a pushchair.

I just saw a Babystyle Oyster in my local nursery store today, I'm not sure if the model but it was really neat and compact.

I've got a joie chrome and a Citroen ds3. It only just fits though.

I have a Peugeot 107. My uppababy fitted with chair seat and rumble seat. But I did have to take the parcel shelf out.

When I moved onto a push chair I had to get a z fold rather than umbrella fold as the umbrella ones were too long

Petite star zia is tiny, but unhelpfully doesnt fold flat for newborns. You could sling for a few months?

There are definitely options! What else do you want out of your buggy? The baby jogger zip is compact but feels sturdy, the babyzen yoyo 0+ is dinky but someone said their toddler had tipped it a few times. I think parent facing would be hard to do - not sure if a bugaboo bee would fit?

I have a convertible Beetle so basically NO boot space. We have a toddler so have to put a stroller in the back under his legs. We are looking for a new car as are expecting baby number 2 and have an Oyster buggy so need way more space. If baby is little a stroller is pretty useless but if bigger then a stroller works pretty well in the back.

Is there any way you can drive a bit further to somewhere you can actually try the pushchair in your boot? Dimensions make quite a difference. I did a lot of online research about what would fit in a "small" boot, but it mostly went out the window when we actually tried them. Unless someone has the same car as you, what fit their narrow boot might not work in your short/shallow one.

Thanks for the tips! I went to an out of town Mothercare yesterday and the sales girl fitted an Oyster 2 chassis in the boot, phew! There is an independent retailer about an hour away who I think have a HUGE range in stock, so I'll plan a trip there. I've been quite stuck on the idea of a travel system, but having researched I think maybe separates will be more practical for my situation, and as soon as baby is old enough I can buy a fold away stroller. I thought travel systems may be better value, but the Oyster was pretty eye watering buy the time everything was factored in, so separates don't seem too bad now with something to compare to.

Consider getting an extended rear facing car seat. They stay in car and last newborn- 4/5 years.

That way you only need to look for a pram without car seat. ( they shouldn't stay in car seat more than 30 mins anyway)

Their oxygen levels get dangerously low after 20-30 mins. Hence 30 mins. Some choose to use for 2 hours, but that's up to them. Safely, 30 mins max

I have an oyster lite which fits in my fiat 500 boot with the back wheels popped off. It was £139 basic from John Lewis plus £30 for colour pack and £6 for adaptors for car seat to fit onto chassis. The seat on the pushchair can lie flat and can be used from birth. Didn't bother with buying the carrycot as it seemed surplus to needs having a moses basket at home as well. Have been very pleased with it. On the 500 you can lie one half of the backseat flat so often don't need to take wheels of pram at all.

I was told 20 mins was the time most babies oxygen dropped below 92%. If in hospital they would be put on supplemental oxygen that that level. This was by someone who is one of the top pediatrians in London.

Citroen C1 (new shape) originally had Uppababy vista and downgraded now to the Cruz after my vista was crushed by another car😭😭😭 I really love the prams due to the big baskets and with the cruz I have room for the pram and shopping with parcel shelf

I can get the Mothercare Roam chassis & pram/pushchair part in the boot of my Mini, I just have to take the bumper bar off, turn it on it's side & push the front of the pram/pushchair part against the seat backs then fold the chassis & remove all four wheels turn that on its side with the release catch facing up and the underneath of the tray/basket facing out, place the wheels & bumper bar around the edges & it all fits without having to remove the parcel shelf. I'm pretty pleased with it really.

The baby jogger zip is a teeny foldaway stroller that's suitable from birth!

I've now got a Baby Jogger City Mini Zip plus car seat adaptors to take my maxicosi cabriofix. I don't think it is suitable from birth though as it is not completely lie flat, it folds very small and is a great stroller.

I also have a mamas and papas sola from my first child which I used with bassinet (I prefer the full lie down option for tinies) and thankfully now I have the BJCM will never have to shoehorn into a boot ever again! The sola has a very wide wheelbase - a good 2 or 3 inches wider at the back wheels than the Oyster, and it just flattens down whereas the Oyster folds in half again.

Think about what and how you will be using - I pretty much walk anywhere I can and so many trips are home > home so the big pram is great and much comfier for the baby. I almost bought an Oyster for this baby but decided the Sola could continue as I had it already and got the BJCM instead which I have been using from about 8 weeks as although not a true lie flat, I felt it was flat enough (I still used the proper pram most of the time - only need the BJCM when using the car). I love it - we just did a week in center parcs with it and the baby (now heading for 5 months old) loved it and seemed really comfy (she was in it a lot while we entertained her 3YO sister.)

If you have the space, I would maybe consider something like a BJCM plus car seat adaptors and then a second hand bigger 'pram' to never take in the car, if you think you'll use it enough. Most people only use the bassinet pram bit for about 3 months anyway as most babies grow out of them by then, so tend to have very light use not he second hand market.
