Good value travel system

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good value travel system to me.
I am not desperately worried a book it's looks as long as it is safe and comfy for baby. Obviously I wouldn't have baby in the car seat for too long but would like it to be compatible for short trips, again I am more concerned about the car seats safety than anything else.

I would like the pram seat to be forward and parent facing. It must have an extending handle as hubs is much taller than me and must fit easily into the boot of my fiesta. I would like it to be reasonably light and am open to the idea of a carrycot if needed.

I would choose the car seat first and then see which pushchair is compatible - many have adaptors which mean you can put different brand car seats on them. In particular many pushchairs have adaptors available for putting maxi cosi car seats on.

Moggle, I know what you mean but am struggling ok n where to start. I'm e speciallyconfused by the new I-size legislation. If you buy a 0 group infant carrier what do you do between baby out growing g th s t and moving to forward facing?

Ten years ago I used to sell these things so knew all about them but the market has changed and there are so many names that I don't know anymore. I'm finding it all frustrating.

What do/did you all have? Would you recommend them?

Joie chrome is good they've just brought out a new version of the Gemm seat called the Isize Gemm you can get the whole system and an isofix base for about £500 or buy the system 2nd and a new car seat and base

Mothercare have also just brought out the Roam which is £300 with a car seat and base too
are you wanting 3 or 4 wheels ? and do you want a seat that faces you or away ? or both

Would like seat to face both ways and prefer 4 wheels I think.

There are just so many options and I know from working in that industry that more expensive definitely doesn't always mean better.

Graco evo

The Graco evo is a bit rattly and plastic though and no adjusting handle if your tall im only 5'4 and stoop to push one

For £500 I would get a 2nd hand uppababy vista and a brand new infant carrier car seat (maxi cosi are compatible with adaptors others will be too) all new your looking closer to £800-1000 depending where you buy. I have a vista and love it, plan to use it until pushchair days are over rather than ditch it for a stroller.

Just realised no one answered your earlier car seat question. When baby too big for infant carrier you move to an extended rear facing group 1 seat which will do them up to age 4.

I have a Joie Chrome. It was £220 for pushchair/car seat on special offer in mothercare, another £100ish for the base and then if I wanted the carry cot that would have been another £100 which is all pretty reasonable. It's really easy to unfold and fits in my small car boot. Carseat base makes it so easy to get in and out of the car, and it also belts in so if you end up in another car occasionally for whatever reason (taxi etc) you can belt the seat in.

I would suggest just getting an extended rear facing car seat. Then you use that from newborn -4 years rear facing. That way you don't pay for baby seat and base plus then the rear facing seat after.

Something like Cybex sirona. Yes they are more expensive but a baby seat would be cost of baby seat, plus base plus rear facing after.

Then you can buy a pushchair that suits your lifestyle. For fitting in fiesta I would say no carrycot. Get one that lies completely flat so can be used from newborn. Can add some soft pram sheepskin to make cosier for small baby.

A secondhand bugaboo bee would be great (£200 ish)

maxi cosi do a system with a fold flat carrycot too you might like those if you want a carrycot

The britax romer 2 is a good ERF seat if your not wanting a detachable one or like other's have said a 2nd hand system and a new seat plus if you buy 2nd hand you widen your option's to what's within your budget

Thanks so much for your replies. It looks like there are a few options out there and its nice to have some suggestions from mums who have used them.
I'm a little bit wary of buying second hand as there is no guarantee with things. The extended rear facing seat is definitely worth looking into. These were only just coming in when I worked in the shop and where always quite upright but maybe they've improved.

We have the Mothercare Roam travel system it cost £250 & includes an infant carrier car seat. We love it it has an extending handle which suits us well as I'm 5ft tall & OH is 6ft 1in. It fits in the boot of my parents fiesta (Y reg if that helps) I just need to remove one rear wheel which is really easy as they are all "quick release" wheels & I can get the entire thing, including the pram / pushchair seat unit in the boot of my Mini although I do have to remove all of the wheels but it doesn't take long to put down / back up. You can get a separate isofix base if your car is compatible. My car is, but unfortunately the car seat doesn't fit behind the front seat if it's in the base so we just secure it with the seat belt. You have the option of a carrycot type thing which converts into the seat unit so can grow with baby. I've recently converted from the carrycot to the pushchair seat as DD has decided that she's too nosey to spend time in it lying down asleep & would rather look at the world go by & her strange mummy. (Currently in parent facing mode, can also be used forward facing) if you have any questions about it, I'd be pleased to help.

We have the Mothercare Roam - I hated it! Too wide at the back, carrycot too long, feels poorly designed in quite a few ways and very much not suited to apartment living in London. I bought a Baby Jogger City Mini when my son was 4 weeks old and much prefer it. Travel system functionality was a waste of time for us really - that said, if I'd known then what I know now I'd probably have bought a Bugaboo Bee like what feels like every other Islington parent has done already.
