Best stroller for tall child

Hi

I wonder if anyone has any advice on strollers. My son is 15 months but is getting too big for his bugaboo bee (he's on the 99th percentile for height). He's not walking yet so I need a durable stroller. Plus he's already 12kg so I need one with a high weight limit.

Uppababy Cruz suits our lanky toddler v well, he's almost 3 now and still fits in it. He's 90th height percentile.

Bees are notorious for failing tall toddlers.

What's the budget? The Micralite is very good for tall toddlers.

DS will be 16 months this week and is very tall (98th percentile), we've just bought the BJCM lite as a second pushchair for in the car, and he has plenty of room in it. He also weighs about 13kg, and although the weight limit in the UK is stated as 15kg, they test them in the US to 18kg, I think. We looked at the silver cross reflex, which has a 25kg limit, but it looked flimsy to me and I'm not keen on the umbrella fold.

Why is he too tall? The hood ? Or the harness?

Many hoods are detachable, if you don't use them.

Bug chameleon is a higher weight limit.

My 2 1/2 year old is the height of a 4 1/4 year old. She has chameleon and quinny buzz (the small one, folds up into its own bag. Don't think it's a zap?)

She is 17 kilos. Hasn't broken a pram or shopping trolley yet!

It'll not be a Buzz, they are big. Certainly don't fold into a bag. A truck maybe, but not a bag!

Thanks for all the top tips. The problem is the hood but if I take it off how do I attach the raincover?

On the weight, I've checked the red book and if he stays on his current percentile (91%) he's going to be 25kg by the time he's two. I'm not going to be rigid but 10kg over the limit might be a bit over-ambitious.

John Lewis suggested the silver cross pop. Any views?

25kg when he turns two prediction doesn't sound right? Our child is also over average on red book centiles and is definitely still between 15kg-20kg, turned 3 this month.

I'd recommend a Maclaren. Quest, Techno or XLR.

You have the Bugaboo Bee plus right? Not an old Bee? And you have extended the seat back height? If you are using a seat liner or footmuff it will tug the extended back rest down so you need to squeeze something in at the back btw the bit you've pulled up and the rest of the seat back. (I use tip of black rubber door stop or you can cut a bit from an eraser)

I have my son in Bee plus and we just manage. He is three next week and over the 100th centile for height. I could just pull the hood over his head by the looks. So I'm surprised it's not working for your son of extended as he must be quite a bit shorter due to age difference.

My son was 14kg at 12mo, 18kg at 24mo and is 19kg approaching third birthday. Yours might slim down too. (I remember people telling me mine would and it felt like it would never happen!)

The Bee goes up to 16.7kg but we are doing ok. He sometimes has to get out on the cobblestones as with his weight we get stuck. But he's only in it nowadays on the way back from nursery when tired or if I want him to rest.

The Cameleon can't work for him at all. I tried him in it at 2.5 and his head was past the top of the hood. And then when I tipped the buggy back to get the front wheels up a curb something snapped inside the chassis and it would no longer collapse.

I've used a Mountain Buggy ok and City Mini Jogger a year ago but when the hood is collapsed it was a bit low.

So have a check on the back rest on the Bee. My son still just fits so hopefully yours will for a couple of years!

(Don't get me started on car seat issues for a big boy though!)

Agree my son was over centiles for weight at 2nd birthday weighing 18kg. So 25kg would be so far off the chart.

Sorry just realised I read the chart wrong! He will be 15kg at 2 and a quarter so guess 15kg will be fine.

We have a silver cross pop for the very same reason of concerns that 15kg won't be enough. I haven't had any problems with it and was £110 from babies r us so cheaper than a mclaren which only went up to 25kg. Basket is a bit small and hard to access but think that's just umbrella folds strollers in general rather than the pop.

I used a quinny zapp as it was parent facing DD fitted into it until she was 4, the seat unit is higher off the ground the. The push chair types so she couldn't reach the floor to drag her feet. The only problem with it was that we went through 3 sets of wheels, but I don't drive and we probably walked about 8 miles a day.

The other buggy I looked at was the Baby Jogger City, it folds up nicely and is large but not parent facing.

As far as the 15kg weight limit on pushchairs go that is just the maximum that they have to test them in the UK. If you look at the same buggy in another country it has a different weight limit - I think the US test up to 25kg.

I should have added that my DD has remained on the 99th percentile since birth for height but as others said is less for weight, just below the 91st I think and she's 6 now.

It is fabulous for the price (100) and really good for tall kids. We have a buggy board on it now and my husband prefers it to the icandy. It's an excellent second pushchair.

My iCandy goes up to 25kg and has a nice big seat (well, long) so maybe this is a good option?
