Best pram for newborn twins

Hi,

I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant with identical twins and just trying to think ahead as to which double pram/buggy to get. I've a nearly 3 year old daughter who isn't really bothered about being in a pram as she tends to walk most places.

I was wondering what people advise as being a good pram for twins that can be used from birth until they are older as I'd prefer to get one pram that I can keep instead of getting multiple prams. I've been having a look and it seems to be a bit of a minefield so thought I'd see if anyone had suggestions. I'd prefer them to be side by side rather than one up and down so don't think I can get many prams that would take car seats that could do this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as my heads boggled!

I love the mountain buggy which comes with carry cots for the first few months and then can be transferred to the seats as they get bigger.

Hi Kaz! Are you looking at a side-by-side or a tandem pram? I've got the ICandy Peach 3 which I know can be used for twins, I am planning on using mine for a newborn and a toddler and I can't recommend this pram highly enough - great to push, folds really small, looks great :)

I must have a look at the mountain buggy, don't think I'd looked at it yet. I'd really prefer side by side I think so that it will do from birth until older. A couple of people had recommended the icandy peach, but wasn't sure they're would be enough room when they're both bigger. Planning to just get one Oran that will do through.

A friend had mentioned about the baby city jogger mini that it's good and easy to steer, fold and light.

I'd probably be looking to get a second hand pram as need to get a different car too. x

I had the Nipper 360 and loved it. (I also had a 3 year old and and 5 year old too when DTs were born!)

It is super light and it came with wee inserts for when they were tiny so they were a bit more comfortable and more secure in the straps. They were in it until they were past 3 and could have stayed in it longer no bother. (We walk pretty much everywhere and they just couldn't manage to walk the distances we did at the speed ! needed before then!) It was never too heavy to push and they had plenty of space in it.

With the 360 version it turns on a sixpence as my Granny would have said - seriously impressive when manoeuvring around shops! It is also pretty narrow and the only door I couldn't get it through was (ironically) the door into the child health room at our doctors surgery! It was an old building though with narrow doors. I never had a problem anywhere else - even in our small town with lots of older buildings.

It is pretty easy to fold up and although it is a bit of a beast folded up it was easy to lift in and out of our (high 4x4) boot. At the time we had an XC90 and we were able to fit it in behind the 3rd row of seats (just about) and we regularly had it in the boot with 1 of the seats up and still had plenty of space left for shopping and school bags etc...

The only downside to it is that because it is so light when the babies are really tiny it can tip easily if you pile lots of stuff on the top of it. You also can't hang anything off the handles for the same reason. The basket nets underneath aren't very big but you can fit a surprising amount of stuff in them! There is also a separate detachable shopping basket you can buy if you need it. (although I bought one thinking I would use it and I ended up giving it away unopened 3 years later!)

Peach twin is a really great tandem pram, my friend has twins and his wife and him absolutely love it. the twins are now out of carrycots and into seat units, but they like how easy it is to use and how they can get through shop doors or down busy streets easy!

I've got the Uppababy Vista for my newborns. They're in carrycots at the moment, and it is quite long, but quite easy to push. Huge shopping baskets too. Also liked the look of the Mountain Buggy. That would have been my second choice.

It's only the 2015 Vista that can be used for twins I think, so it may be difficult to find one second hand.

We chose the mountain buggy as at the time was the only side by side narrow enough to fit through my front door. I didn't want to faff about getting them out and collapsing all the time. The carry cots were great when tiny for daytime sleeps. Very robust and still used a lot 4 years later. Side by side def better as they get older - Glad we dont have the arguments about who goes in front/back! However it is heavy to lift in and out of car boots. This isn't a huge problem for me as rarely use the car, but worth knowing if will be for you. I have heard good things about the out and about nipper and think they also do a narrow model. Also, if you have a toddler proper carrycots might reduce your flexibility to pop one twin in sling so toddler can hop in pushchair if necessary.

The Bugaboo Donkey! Unbeatable.

I loved mine. Forward or rear facing, suitable from birth and compatible with car seats.

They also have an excellent resale value, more so than any other buggy. I sold mine on gumtree for more than half of the original price.

Friend of mine had a bug donkey and an out'n'about nipper for her twins.

The nipper looked a better buggy (less assembly on removal from the car...) but the babies always looked more comfortable in the donkey. They always seemed to wriggle and slouch in the nipper.

The nipper has a better lie-flat position, the donkey seat just tips back with child in same position.

Thanks all for your ideas. Sorry for the delay in replying been manic with appointments at the hosp and they thought I had the start of TTTS but thankfully all ok at the moment which means even more appointments and running after my near 3 year old.

I liked the bugaboo donkey but it was just way outside our price range. My near 3 year old is pretty good and wants to walk everywhere so don't think it would be too much of a problem her wanting into the pram.

We actually got the baby jogger city mini at a really good price second hand and can always buy the carrycot seats separately if we find that they are too slouched in the seats. A friend has twins and she said she used the out and about nipper from birth with the huggers inside to keep them in place. The pram seems so light to push and easy folded and not too heat when lifting in and out of the car... That's the next thing to look at getting a new car that will fit 3 car seats in the back.

20 weeks now so not that long to go. Just hoping all will go ok until they're here safely.

I have the icandy peach for my twins and I absol love it. Don't underestimate how useful it is to be able to put the car seats on the pram...this has helped me get out of the house every day.

Maybe worth looking for a second hand peach or vista.

Baby jogger city mini

Since I last posted we had our 20 week scan and unfortunately found out that one of our babies had no heartbeat ??. It's uncertain if the other wee one will make it or not. It's still got a good heartbeat and active at the moment but it may survive, may pass away too or may survive with neurological problems.

It's a long wait to find out what will happen but the hospitals have been lovely and have upped our appointments to twice a week so we can see that all is still ok. I'm only 22 weeks now so a long way to 28-30 but hopefully this wee one is a fighter and will continue to stay strong. xx
