Should we use mouldy pushchair?

Dc2 due in May, DD will be exactly 2. Inevitably the do we/ don't we need a double debate has been going round and round!

Someone has given us a Babyjogger double, which got really quite mouldy. They powerhosed it, and got most of it off. I've stripped it off the frame today, covered it in Dettol mould remover and it's gone through the machine at 90.

It appears to have got rid of all the mould, to the naked eye. Surely any remaining mould has been sterilised?! We're considering a new carrycot for the newborn and possibly new hoods as well, just in case.

Wwyd, would you use it?

Personally I would not use it as kids as so touchyfeely then put their fingers in their mouths and it is difficult to keep track of them all of the time.

I may be overly reactive to the idea of mould, though, because we had a patch of mould approx. 10cm square on the back of a sofa in a previous home a few years ago (before our children were born) and it gave me breathing difficulties and other allergy symptoms making me feel really ill for months until the source was discovered.

Is there any way you can replace the part that was mouldy?

The whole seat unit is one piece of fabric and I don't think (although happy to be corrected) you can buy replacements.

Gah, is perfect pushchair. Maybe I could fit both dc with gas masks?!

I was going to say absolutely not but having read the treatment you've given (fair play!) I think that sounds ok

If it has gone through the washing machine it's clean. There won't be any mould left on it.

I cleaned my DD's old pram to use for my DS 5 years later. I used Sainsbury's own mould removing spray, scrubbed it with washing up liquid, rinsed it and left it in the sun to dry. The Dettol spray had changed the colour of my Maclaren stroller straps previously, so I didn't use it on the carrycot just in case it ruined the fabric.

To be fair, it came off relatively easily, was mainly poppers. I was prepared to put in more effort, there is after all a free pushchair at stake here! I suspect we will need a youtube video to get it back on though.

Forgot to say that the seat unit went through the washing machine too.

From a coachbuilt pram restorer she detols and leaves them in the sun, amongst other things.
I'm getting my mums 70s silver cross pram restored if I get pregnant with dc2, it's pretty mouldy on the inside even after lots of scrubbing so it's getting completely stripped out before I would put a baby in it.

you can get a lot of spare parts from the manufacturers or eBay

You've washed it at 90?! Put it back on the frame... Like right now! Hope it's still wet...

Is it a city mini? You can buy new fabrics from baby jogger but they're expensive. I would use it after the treatment you've given it if you manage to get it back on that is!

I would definitely use it. As long as it's been through the wash and you've scrubbed it, it's going to be fine.

But yes- good luck getting it back on the frame! You might want to do that while its still wet

Thanks all. It was too late last night, it was pretty much dry anyway, so decided to risk it. We have got it back on - it has shrunk a tiny bit, there were some poppers that took both of us, but it's done.

If anyone finds this thread on an advanced search - putting it back on wet would have been A Good Idea!
