wanting another pram

so dd is 10 months old and i'm getting the urge to go pram shopping again. i really like the icandy peach.
i have a silvercross 3d in the shed from previous dd, a baby merc junior sitting unused in the kitchen, and an oyster. i have just given away a graco and will probably give away the baby merc whch i only used for six weeks. it was way too big. i like my oyster and have used it daily for just under 10 months now so starting to get bored. i have never used the main seat for oyster so its like brand new. i still use the carseat with it as dd is still smallish.
anyone have the icandy peach? i've been looking on gum tree, pre loved and ebay, but i don't want to end up with one that falls apart in months cos the other half will kill me.
this would defo be the last pram as we are not planning to have more kids.
what do you think?

I got a bugaboo chameleon off a Gumtree for £50. I'm dead chuffed. Have washed it all and it's good as new. Having a posh buggy/pram doesn't mean you spent a fortune. I will get bored of it, sell it, and get a "new" one without a doubt, but by the time dc3 (due this month) is walking I will probably break even financially tbh, not have spent a fortune on buggies. Did the same with my first two.

Sorry, not helpful, but understand where you're coming from OP.

thankyou blink and jassey. these are the replies i was hoping for. people with experience of this pram, rather than the judgemental ones. i didnt want to go and outright buy one and then be disappointed it was no better than the current one. i was only looking 2nd hand wise so dont have any idea as to actual size. dont kno w anyone that had or has one either. i was hoping for feedback on here as i find people will tell you what to expect rather than a sales pitch of what you want to hear iyswim

I think they have them in John Lewis if you have one nearby to go and try one out.

My friend has the icandy apple? and her 2.5 yo looked really cramped in it but he is a big lad. not sure if the seat are any different to the peach as they all look pretty much the same to me but the icandy was the one I was looking to get when the oyster cracked. the one thing that put me off was that they don't fold with the seat attached and in the cold and wet taking them to bits is a pain in the butt.

if you like the icandy but want big seat and light then definitely look at the newer bugaboo's (heard really bad reports about the bee but the chameleon is meant to be good) or look at the mamas and papas zoom/sola/urbo as they are really lightweight without being flimsy and when facing forward they fold with the seat on. I have the zoom which has the triangle base but has 4 sturdy wheels and I LOVE it!! the urbo was my dream pram when dd was born but I couldn't afford it but they come up on lots of facebook selling sites and ebay for around the £100 mark now and the seat lies completely flat so suitable from birth. I use a padded footmuff to keep dd warm as she is a swine for lobbing blankets out. Grin

TheIronGnome · 01/02/2015 19:41

A car seat is not a pram equivilent. It should only be used for 2 hours mx at a time.

I suggest you use ANY of your buggy fleet instead of the car seat.

What about a simple McLaren now she's pretty big? Light, easy to fold and very popular for a reason. Or just stick with your Oyster and get a new footmuff. I'm really not sure being bored is a good reason to buy a new buggy but that's up to you!

whatawhoppa · 01/02/2015 19:57

that is a bargain allthenames! i know someone who splashed out close to 1k for hers in summer. first baby there though and that is her choice.
i always look 2nd hand as there are always bargains to be had. i know how much they are new and set myself a budget what i'm willing to spend, othewise i know i'd go overboard.
i bought first two new from shop. first i had no idea what i wanted from it and turned out to be a totally wrong choice so i got a chicco buggy which all the seat frayed and leg rest fell off within the year, so i bought the silvercross 3d for 50quid which saw us through.

the one i bought for new baby wasnt expensive new. but was only available online. i had no idea how big it actually was until it came but i was prepared to muddle on. ended up having to get a new car and it no longer fit in the boot. the car we got worked out cheaper to buy with a cost of a new pram on top,so thats what we did and i ended up choosing the oyster.
i do like it dont get me wrong. the icandy is similar which is probably why i am considering it.

you can name your pram make Shock I bought mine in a haze of morning sickness all I know is it's black and called a joey.

Now the stroller that's a different matter, I was drawn in by the pretty foxes on the cossatto supa...it was on sale, I cavedBlush Layes flat for DS when he falls asleep and sits upright for him to nose about he's a small 24weeks old not prem on 2nd percentiles and he's fine in it. perhaps a stroller would be better??

Mumblefireplace · 01/02/2015 20:06

Yanbu. As your lifestyle/ baby's needs change, it makes sense to change pushchairs if appropriate. And as for being bored of one, I know what you mean! I am fed up with mine after 8 months so thinking of selling it to try out a different type. I don't have any experience with icandy though I'm afraid. I say, go for it!

WhatWouldFlopDo · 01/02/2015 20:10

DD is a tiny dot but looked huge in the Oyster from about 18 months, so I got a cheap umbrella fold from Argos. How about getting a new colour pack for the Oyster so it looks different?

TwinkieTwinkle · 01/02/2015 20:14

Stealth boast alert! Stealth boast alert! (Not a sly one at that)

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/02/2015 20:16

use the pram seat not the car seat. scrunching up like that can't be good for them especially if she was prem.

buggy's are boring. A new one will be boring.

If you need anything you need a maclaren stroller.

another pram. is pointless and expensive. It will be boring just like teh one you have. They aren't fashion or fun items they are functional.

whatawhoppa · 01/02/2015 20:24

the only buggy i had fell apart. it wasnt cheap or flimsy either. it looked exactly like the cossato ones you see a lot of now but it was chicco. this was 2009 though. the material frayed off on the leg rest and the plastic bar came through and would dig into her leg. it wasnt old or worn either. on reflection maybe a buggy would be a much wiser choice just not one of thoe types Hmm
im not going to rush into it this time. i'm thinking around april will be the time unless i see an utter bargain

Was this meant for the first world problems thread?

whatawhoppa · 01/02/2015 20:42

No worries Smile, I do sort of get where you're coming from regarding wanting a change. I wouldn't go for an iCandy peach if you're wanting it long term, the seat unit is 'odd' at the bottom. It has a little footrest but it's rounded and very shallow so DS couldn't rest his feet on it, he had to hang them off the end. The seat has a metal frame all around it which then dug into the back of his legs. Now that's not a problem everyone would have but the older children I've seen in them don't look very comfy. Up until then though it was great! Hence why I'm upset I can't use it again straight away. Oh and their customer service is awful, they've discontinued loads of the accessories for models which aren't that old.

I'd look at the Mamas and Papas pushchairs; the Urbo has been much longer lasting as it parent and world faces. It also has adaptors for using the car seat on it too, and the good is huge which is great in the summer. The Sola is similar but without the hood and the Armadillo flip is the same as the Urbo but very lightweight. You can also get all the cold weather stuff for them too. I got an Armadillo in place of the Maclaren stroller as it was a more supportive seat and felt more solid.

Check out your buy and swap pushchair pages on Facebook - there are always bargains on there.

I'm not sure why you're getting abuse on here, I know pushchairs are not everyone's 'thing' but it's no different to cars etc. Whatever floats your boatGrin.

mindthegap79 · 01/02/2015 20:50

It's bad for their spines to be in a car seat for prolonged periods - 2 hours max is the guideline.

Buy a MacLaren, sell the rest and put the money in a savings account for your little one.

anothermakesthree · 01/02/2015 21:04

To be fair OP.....you have posted this in AIBU and so you are inviting judgemental comments? If you only wanted comments about people's expetience of the prams perhaps move this to chat?

TrojanWhore · 01/02/2015 21:08

"thankyou blink and jassey. these are the replies i was hoping for. people with experience of this pram, rather than the judgemental ones."

I suggest you ask MNHQ to move this out if AIBU and into the Pushchair Topic which is an active one where the type of poster you seek is much more likely to be found than here.

whatawhoppa · 01/02/2015 21:30

maybe i misjudged and posted on the wrong thread, my bad. however, this is mumsnet, so you'd think mums would be more understanding of each other. seems like a good place to come if you want a beat down and to be made to feel shit about your parenting skills.

is that suitable from birth plastic Grin

OP posts:
Plasticswizzlestick · 01/02/2015 22:26

With vast amounts of this, sure. Hell, you can even fit a stroppy tween in there. I've read the adaptor bit shown in the image may even stop them moaning. (Can't find strike through)

Big enough to convert to a double if needs be.

Bloody marvellous.

I don't get the pram/pushchair mania. I had one 3 in 1 pram for all 3 dcs born over 9 years. My youngest must have been pushed around in a vv unfashionable pram - he's nearly 7 now and isn't showing any signs of disadvantage.

OP, if you have the space and the money - do what the hell you want!

This thread has reminded me that I still have a M&P 3 in 1 up the attic....bought in 1999. I suppose I should junk it or maybe hang on until blue/green check comes back into fashion?!
