Confused!

I have the Uppababy Vista for 13 month old DD and love it. I am unexpectedly 11 weeks pregnant with DC2. I knew you could convert the vista to a double but having looked at it, neither seat would be suitable for a newborn?! Am I being stupid or would the only way to use it for a newborn be to use the car seat attachment? I've seen the new Vista and it looks perfect but sadly can't afford a whole new other system. Does anyone use the old style vista with a new baby and a toddler?

Yes, you can either use the car seat for a newborn or you can put the main seat forward facing fully reclined and use a wedge. Uppababy snug seat or I assume a smartmuff, silver cross baby nest, mamas and papas sola city wedge would also work. The silver cross one creates a very flat surface for a newborn.

Personally I would rather do that than use a car seat full time, which isn't ideal for the baby in terms of organ development and positional asphyxia risks. It does depend how you use your pushchair though, if you do a lot of short journeys just the car seat may be fine.

Thank you ihate. Yes I really don't want to be using a car seat all the time, id much prefer the baby to be able to lie flat. I'll look into the options you mentioned or alternatively look at selling my vista and buying a second hand double.

The second option might ultimately be more practical and possibly cheaper with a relatively small age gap. The other issue with the vista and your elder dc being relatively young is the rumble seat is very upright so sleeping in the pushchair is a potential issue.

DD never sleeps in her pushchair anyway (in fact never sleeps ), but I don't want to use anything that is going to be impractical. We have a narrow hallway and no garage/path through to the garden so a side by side double wouldn't work, any recommendations for good doubles?

Have a lOok at Mountain Buggy Duet. It's a narrow side by side - it was actually as narrow as my icandy Apple single due to how the wheels are under the seat, rather than sticking out the sides. I have 20 months between DCs and didn't like the Phil and Teds type of doubles as no recline for 2nd seat.

Having recently bought a vista from ebay I can confirm that they sell very well second hand, there aren't many out there and you should get a good price for it.

I would look at the Babystyle Oyster Max and BJ City Select. They are good tandems which you can use from birth but also look good as a single. There is a good website called www.bestbuggy.co.uk which reviews all of them. I love the Vista but from what I've read they don't work well with a small age gap. If you've got an older DC who can use a buggy board/rumble seat occasionally then I think it's ok but in I think you will need a proper tandem.
