Silver Cross Pioneer Reviews

We are trying to decide between the Pioneer and the Uppababy Vista. There are plenty of reviews available for the Vista but because the Pioneer is so new the reviews on this are very limited. If you have a Pioneer please could you let us know your thoughts & pros & cons?
Thank you

I would like to get hold of a Pioneer to see if the handling is better than the Wayfarer. I would be interested to know how people are finding the handling compared to other pushchairs.

I sell both these prams and think the Uppa Baby Vista is far, far better than the Pioneer.

Build quality, handling, everything really, much better than the Pioneer.

Just my opinion.

Hi TeaandCake. Thank you for the reply. I have heard that the Vista is very poor when it comes to anything but flat ground and also that Uppababy has very bad customer service if anything goes wrong with the system. Have you had any experience of these issues?

Not my experience with Uppa. Any problems have been dealt with well and in good time. We, the retailer deal with the manufacturer not the consumer, they've always been fine.

To be fair to Silver Cross though, they too deal with problems fairly quickly.

My issue with Silver Cross is that they seem to be a bit overpriced for the quality they deliver. They're not terrible, but (in my opinion anyway) they are trading on the top quality, luxury reputation of yesteryear. We have lots of misty-eyed grandparents-to-be come in and talk about the beautiful Silver Cross prams they owned and think they are buying the same type of thing, it's just the name. Yes, the Heritage coach built prams are as lovely as they ever were but the lifestyle stuff is just middling for top prices.

The Vista has pretty big wheels all round and are probably better than most 'small wheeled' systems when off road. It is important to lock the front wheels to the fixed position when walking on rougher surfaces. Maybe people don't do this?

The Pioneer is basically a Wayfarer with bigger wheels. It's probably much smoother than a Wayfarer due to the size of the wheels but the Wayfarer is very stiff and unforgiving on any surface so it's an improvement for sure.

Price wise, the Vista and Pioneer are pretty similar but (for me) the Vista represents better value for money with more features as standard (rain covers, bug nets, Maxi Cosi adapters, huge storage basket, UV sun shades built in).

Uppa Baby are just about to launch a few new colours which will be available in December but they are also increasing the price to £700, so if you go for this do v soon before the price hike!

I actually disagree with your statement TeaandCake about Silver Cross pushchairs being "overpriced for the quality". I thought the Wayfarer which I had was extremely good quality - actually no - it was exceptional quality - for a very reasonable price. You get the raincover, car seat adaptors, carrycot and cup holder all for under £500. The Vista in comparison is over £600 for a similar product. Both have huge baskets. I could get more in the Wayfarer basket than in the Vista one (where things fell out!).

Don't get me wrong because the Vista is a very excellent pushchair too - one of the best there is, but I have never seen quality and finish on any other pushchair quite like the Wayfarer. It is a shame that the Wayfarer is let down by the handling, but as long as the Pioneer pushed better than the Wayfarer, then there is no doubt I would be choosing a Silver Cross out of these two.

Just as an aside, I was rather pleased to get my hands back on a Cruz again this week, and to discover that the suspension seems to have been improved dramatically. It doesn't stick like it used to!
