Buggy board - what age?

Hi

What age do you find toddlers can use a buggy board from? I was hoping my DD will be able to use one from 23 months, but when I looked at it today (to fit on a bugaboo bee probably) I was a bit unsure if she'd be safe holding on to just the buggy handle.

Not sure my 23 month old could use it. Think my older ds was 3 before he could be trusted to stay on. Possibly 2.5 minimum.

Expect girls may be better than boys though at staying still!

DS was 20 months when DS2 was born. He is now 21 months. (Baby is 6 weeks).

DS has been on a buggy board on bugaboo cameleon since baby arrived. He loves it. It's been great. Only thing is I put reins on DS and hold them in my hand along with the pushchair handle just because once or twice he has darted off the board if he's seen something interesting. But that's rare he mainly stays on. Depends on the child I'm sure tho.

We used a bugaboo board from 20 months too. The bugaboo is quite good as they can also sit on them and put their feet in the basket under the buggy - I think you'll be fine with a bit of practice.

Yuh huh, I definitely agree, I think it very much depends on child. Also to some extent the length of time and extent to you need to be out and about with them using the board, If you can work inside their routines for naps/downtime and whatever then you have a better chance IMO. My most trustworthy one is 24m and would be okay I think as long as I had my eye on her. The other two were much nearer 3 being realistic and they remain less than averagely compliant even now >:-l

Dc2 sits on the lascal mini with her feet in the basket too, it can be handy. I wouldn't trust dc3 to hold on reliably enough yet. You can get the twoo seat for the bugaboo board again now if you think a seat would help.

Ok thanks. I wish I could try her out before investing! Does anyone know of any shops that have buggy boards fitted that you can try? Everywhere I've been just have the boards in their boxes not attached to the buggies.

DS1 had his "skate board" at 30 months when DS2 was born and it was brilliant! I think we could have done it at 24 months but there are better things on the market now that would have worked better, I saw one the other day that was a little seat not just a skate board.

this was the one I saw in town and it didn't seem too cumbersome for the mum

The easy x rider is great too, little seat with a lap belt. I had one 2 years ago with a 24m gap. They're good for toddlers who don't need to sleep on the move. I did get a tandem after a few months though as it's not great for a lot of walking but it was excellent for the early days when I didn't tend to take long trips out anyway. For the record I would have had a tandem from day one if I could have got one with the seating set up I wanted, which was toddler on the bottom baby on the top facing me. Now the oyster max does that, as does the obaby zezu multi tandem.

If you have a kiddicare near you they let you try the buggyboard on the pushchair and tbh I bet John Lewis would!

The twins I looked after were fine on one from 20 mths. we used a single and the board on the school run. They had a point where they changed over. Only used it the winter and some of the spring term then they one would walk the other would go in the buggy.

My DD1 was 25 months when DD2 was born and used it straight away (on a Bee). Very much depends on the child.

Ds3 had one from 2.4. Hes now almost 3 and weve just swapped to a freeryder. He wears back pack reigns as well

I still had a double for long distances though as i found if it rained he wasnt so keen to be out in it for long periods of time, takes an hour to walk to tesco for example.
