Sheepskin footmuff help

Hello, I've just got a kaiser sheepskin footmuff and wanted a little help regarding slitting the holes before I make a complete hash of it. It's like this one! and this is the back view of it here. I can see tiny holes in the fabric, do I just slit between them with a knife? I am absolutely clueless and can see myself wrecking it.

There are 4 holes on each row at the top, I'm assuming these are for the harness, so I would just cut between 1 and 2 for the left harness and then 3 and 4 for the right. Will I need to put it on the pushchair first or did you just cut them all and see which fit later?

Thank you
