icandy , bugaboo or stokke ? help needed

hiya

new mum in October Smile

my lovely mum has agreed to gift us the travel system of our choice , which is extremely kind.

I wento to john lewis yesterday. now im having a C Section so ideally want a light chasis. I didnt like the uppababy or bugaboo as the carrycot was very bulky and heavy.

I really liked the icandy peach but the chasis was heavier, so ended up ordering the icandy strawberry as it was lighter and you can fold it with the main chair intact.

I am a little confused by all the different icandys cherry, peach, apple and strawberry .. anyone got any advise or tips as I may return the icandy strawberry.

I also so someone with the stokke and I really liked it as the baby is higher up but is it light? and do they have a complete travel system ?

any advise is greatky appreciated as I dont want to spend a lot of money and regret it later.

I have an icandy cherry and was fine pushing this after section. DH put it up and down for me. It's up to you but I think the stokke is really ugly (sorry!).

I love my stokke, it is so easy to push and no bending to pick up or speak to dd. they may not be the best looking but for tall parents they are an absolute back saver. The base of the stokke really is quite heavy though and the car seat I keep in the car most of the time rather than using on the base as I can barely lift it.

I have to say I am slightly more in love with the look of the icandy. .the guy at John lewis said that he has noticed children tend to grow out of the peach quicker than the strawberry as the seating padding is slightly more snug. I dont mind the look of the stokke just wondering how heavy it all is Smile

I was between the strawberry and the vista and went for the vista in the end because if the huuuuge basket... it has been fantastic! I also found the carry cot great, plenty big for my rotund DD. Not a fan if the stoke because there is no basket, just a bag attachment on the base... this would never have worked for me, as having a big basket for shopping was a deal breaker for me. However my DH is very tall so from that perspective it would have been great for him. The stride space in the vista is long so the height thing hasn't been an issue. Also think about how soon you might have a DC2? Another reason we got the vista was that we could add a toddler seat and use as a double (which we will be doing when DC2 arrives in the winter). So the peach might be worth considering if you like icandy and are considering a second DC, it can be converted to a double I think. I must say I found all the buggy threads on here enormously helpful when choosing our system... helped me decide our criteria and weigh up pros and cons of different systems.

I should add OP that I also had a CS and was fine lifting the cot within a couple of weeks, you won't be doing lifting of any kind for the first few weeks. Most of the bigger systems are heavy to lift, there's not much in it. The vista is a dream to push... anyone I know with bugaboos or icandys haven't had any complaints about pushing them after CS.

we are planning on having a second but not until this one is 2 years old I think.

my fiancé is 6ft3 and I am 5tf3 so it's defo a case of little and large Grin

I have to say I was swayed by the peach for the reason that it can seat two. However I was worried that by the time our second one arrives the first one will be outgrown as the guy told me up to 15kg which is 2 or 3 year. old. I am not sure of this entirely correct lol

I have the icandy strawberry, it's fine for when your baby is small, but the seat is very short and shallow and my 16 month olds head is touching the top. Because of the shallowness he is sort of perched on the seat and he legs just dangle.

We have a cherry, and he's fine in that.

I wouldn't recommend the strawberry, you definitely wouldn't get a few years out of it.

There is a pic somewhere to show that it's quite big, but the poor child in it looks so cramped!

I have the Peach and a v tall DS who stills fits in the seat at nearly two. Don't know how much more we'll get out of it, at least a few more months with the hood on.

We also have a BabyJogger City Mini but the Peach is so much easier to push, such a dream. That was the top priority for me given how much of the first year I spent walking around with him.

Will you need to put the chassis up and down a lot in the early weeks? I found the strap on the Peach chassis helped a lot (was living in a first floor flat). And the basket is huge, which was a must for me!

I have the peach and DS1 aged 2.8 is still fitting into the stroller seat quite happily and the basket is very handy (not as accessible with the pram base on though) and the pram base lasted him a good 6 months. DS2 (9 weeks) on the other hand may be out of the pram base faster as he seems to be taller - we shall see!

peazly I assume you have taken the liner out of your strawberry? In terms of measurements the strawberry seat is very average. I don't have one but I have several pushchairs with the same measurements and my 3.5y old is still perfectly fine in them on the odd occasion she goes in. My 18m old is also fine but is at the stage where she looks as if she will soon be too big, Imo it's a growth pattern thing, more growth in the limbs, less in the torso.

I am defo in the camp that thinks outgrown is more like a big 4yo than a big 18mold though, there is a perception element to it all.

Oh and on the cam/strawberry/peach/stokke front - although having a section is a factor the first few weeks is a very short part of your whole pram use period, pick the one that has the best overall features you think you want. The peach is lovely to push, whenever I picked up the chassis I shinned myself on it, if I was in and out of the car a lot it isn't the one i'd pick. They're all strong choices though, think about the places you will go with it and what features are most important, then you have a better idea of which will suit you the best. Grin

thank you all this has been so so helpful Smile Smile Smile I am gonna go back today and change to the peach . will also look at the stoke but as someone pointed which is a good point the shopping basket is missing and I think practically that would be an issue for me.

the guy at john lewis said most people after 6 months change to a cheap maclaren anyway lol hardly great selling tactics but at least he was honestWink

so went and checked out the stokke and its quite bulky and I dont like the shopping bag. I ended up sticking to icandy strawberry as it is a much lighter pram and you can fold it with the seat intact. thanks for all your advice Smile

I have the strawberry and really like it. I'm 5' 1". DS is 6 months and for general use feel no need for a Maclaren. I'm in London and travel on buses a lot. It's really maneuverable and easy to fit on buses. The push is lovely too. The other week I managed to navigate the supermarket pushing the strawberry and a trolley at the same time without too much difficulty. The fold is also great. I fold it every day as we have steps up to our front door and not much storage in the hall.

I don't know yet how long it will last, but when we bought it I tried my friend's tallish 3 year old and he was on in the seat. It is quite bulky folded though so I'm now thinking of a second for travelling.

There's only a 4 wheeler for the strawberry AFAIK. That's what I have.

I also have the strawberry and it's been great from birth to now (8 months). Lovely and smooth, easy fold, I really like it. I also had a section and was fine with it.

Haven't contemplated getting a MacLaren yet. She's very comfy in her strawberry still.

the icandy strawberry does come as a three wheeler jogger...I may be wrong but I I perceive three wheelers as unstable

That's the peach, the strawberry only comes as a 4 wheeler.

Me too...I love my strawberry. Ds 4 months so comfy in it and lovely and light to push. Really happy with it!

cant wait my arrives next Friday. completely gone off the Stokke, tried it out the other day and although it was light its quite bulky and I hate the shopping bag thing at the front anyone coukd grab it and run off with it lol Smile

If you're planning on having a second, then go for the Icandy as it easily converts to a double.

I didn't plan ahead, bought a bugaboo, had a 2nd and a very late walker and had to buy an Icandy peach blossom rather than just a converter kit... Very expensive mistake to make! Even as a double takes a carseat, has the most space for a second child and still a nice amount of room in the basket.

I love my bugaboo though and will 100% be going back to it when DD1 no longer needs a seat Wink

im still so torn between the peach and strawberry haha. our baby is due in october and we are planning to get married in summer2015 so we wont be trying for a second one till after the wedding so realistically probably by that point this little one would be too big for the peach. ..there is just far too much choice out their haha Smile
