Teeny chair pushchair to chuck in the boot

Going for a long weekend at the other end of the country soon and car boot space will be at a premium. We'll probably take the backpack carrier for ds (14 months) because there isn't enough space for the pushchair. But he can't nap in that which will be a bit limiting, so I'm wondering if it's worth getting one of those really little cheapy pushchairs like Argos's fifteen quid one? Any recommendations?

There are chicco umbrella strollers for about £35 which recline, have hood, under basket, swivel wheels and raincover. Much better than the totally basic ones. I'm on my 2nd but first one lasted 6 years (2 in storage!) try argos and amazon.

Dont dismiss something like a Baby Jogger City Mini. Folded they are incredibly flat - just 16.5cms with the wheels off. I love them because they literally slide on top of a boot full of luggage. The wheels just slide into a gap or the footwell. I would rather have that than an umbrella fold.

Thanks. I already have a baby jogger city mini. It's great - but far too big to take with us. I was hoping to find something really small, but I don't think it actually exists. I looked at the really basic ones in Mothercare this morning and even they were bigger than I was expecting, so I think that rules out the Chicco ones too.

Maclaren volo? It's small when folded but my dd doesn't nap in it! The seat isn't that comfy I think.

There isn't a gap. It's called a Babyzen Yoyo and its bloody expensive!

Are you driving a smart car? Or taking the contents of your house?

Also other option is to see if there are pushchair hire companies wherever you're going.

Average hatchback with a smallish boot. Need to take travel cot, ready bed, backpack carrier plus all the usual paraphernalia for two small children and two adults. The child seats fill the back and dh is freakishly tall so no room in the main body of the car. Honestly, I had the baby jogger and a folding bike in the boot this morning and it wouldn't close.

...maybe that yoyo is the answer...

The bike's not going with us. The carrier is too damn heavy for me never mind hot, but dh likes it so I'm happy to let him hoik the small fat one around in it. His funeral. It's just the naps...

LOL Gwendoline! I didnt want to mention the YoYo when the OP was looking at cheap £15 strollers!
The Livi is pretty neat, as is the Oyster Gem when it comes out, but the BJCM is still easier to slide on top of everything else once packed. The Zapp or Petite Zia are neat too, but chunkier than you think.
There are smaller pushchairs like the Quicksmart pushchairs or the Safety 1st Surf, but no good for napping in.

Is taking a different back carrier an option? My son naps on my back all the time in a custom soft structured carrier I have. Similar high st ones are manduca, ergo, connecta or also use a woven wrap.

We have a really cheap (£15 but a few years old) buggy from Tescos which has no hood or recline, but has a really skinny umbrella fold, the only thing is it isn't built to be pushed by tall people (I'm 5ft 7.5"). However DH (5'6") DM all love it.

Can't you leave the carrier? Pushchair could do both jobs.. We have littlelife travel cots, they are excellent and go in a very small bag, weigh about 2kgs so fit in car much more easily than a typical travel cot.
Our bjcm fits in the kids footwell with the wheels off. We had an umbrella fold pushchair but the length of it always seemed to cause a problem when trying to pack iy in the car.
Can you buy nappies when you arrive? 3 years of travelling all over the country visiting family with 2 small kids and 2 dogs in a focus, can you tell?

Thanks for all these suggestions. I'm now super confused and need to sleep on it! Maybe we just need to take less stuff so we can cram the baby jogger in. I like the look of the yoyo and it is tempting me, but the more I think about it, the more it seems crazy to spend that.
