Anyone got a Mountain Duet?

I am expecting twins later this year and have started looking at buggies. I would like side by side seating, fitting for car seats and carrycots if possible. I had a short list of Mini City Jogger, Out n About Nipper, Bugaboo Donkey, Oyster Max and Mountain Duet. My favourite at the moment is the Mountain Duet as it ticks all the requirement boxes and is still quite narrow for a double. We are concerned about some, such as the Bugaboo, actually fitting through our front door.

Has anyone got one? Can you let me know the downsides? I am aware they are quite heavy to lift and don't fold small. But anything on the manoeuvrability or day to day concerns?

I've got one, but only used it for a few months after ds3 was born. I really liked it, very easy to push, nice quality, sturdy, great offroad. Plenty of space for my two
(toddler and baby). Didn't use carrycots bit did have car seat adaptor which I used all the time for school run and was really handy. always fitted through doorways which was for me a massive bonus. Really good storm cover too.
Currently awaiting arrival of dc4, but not sure if I'll use it or not as ds3 is very independent and doesn't like going in buggy any more!
Btw I used to lift it in and out of car boot several times a day and never had a problem with this. I'm only 5'2

I think its better for twins than siblings. Mine pulled to the side my eldest was on. The fold size as you mention was a big issue too. I think there's a lot better out there unless as you say, the width of your front door is dictating your choice.

Just to add, the way the fabric bunches up around the childrens heads when sitting them up from being reclined was an annoyance. Also even on the highest setting, the handlebar is pretty low.

Thanks all, I will go back and have another look at the different choices. Our front door is in the small side, only about 70cms wide. I could go through the garage but I am not sure how practical this is really.

Tiggy what else would you suggest?

Congratulations on your twins.
I have 7 week old twin boys.
I too looked at the mb duet. In the end, for me a side by side was still just that bit too wide for my very narrow hallway.
I have got the 'Twone' by Jane, and i LOVE it.
Its so light and easy to push. At the moment they are in the matrix 2 carrycot carseats, which are basically stage 0 car seats that have a lever at the back that lies them flat into a carry cot! (genuis).
They then just click on to thr chassis double decker style.
I tried pretty much every twin buggy there is, including the icandy, oystermax, city select, phil and teds... This was the most lightweight by a mile.
The ONLY negative is lack of basket space.... But tbh this is very much the case with all tandem pushchairs really.
Its also realky lovely looking and gets loads if comments on what a lovely pushchair it is. (as if it was me that made it lol!)

Forgot to add... From six months ish, they go into the normal seat units one in front of the other. Forward facing. I also found the seats to be a much better size than the other tandems where it seemed the seat at the back was much narrower.

rowan I had these on mine, they worked really well.

Never managed to fit the raincover anywhere though :-(

I have something similar, a saddle bag thing that i managed to sqeeze raincovers into! I also have a 'mummy clip' too for bags etc. :)

Rowan how do you go on getting the baby in and out of the bottom seat?

That is what put me off about the Oyster Max, firstly getting the bottom one in and out and secondly the one sitting at the back doesn't get to see much and they may object to being at the back when they get old enough to realise.

I'm not at the seat stage yet as they are used from 6 months up and my boys are still weeny 7 weekers. They are in the carry cots and yeah, its definitely one of the slight downsides (the slight awkwardness of getting the little munckin out) bit for me, this is still outweighed as its not that tricky once you get the hang of it.
Once they go in rhe proper seats i plan on building a collection on in-buggy entertainment :) clip on steering wheel thingys jingly jangly stuff, to keep him underneath happy! (hoping that will work well!)

If you have the opportunity to look at the twone, i really would recommend it especially if they also stock the oystermax so you can compare. This helped me decide. The twone is just so much lighter.

The TwOne is much worse for getting a child out of the back. You have to remove the top seat, undo a bar in the middle and then get the lower child out. I couldnt even wipe my sons nose through the side bars! Theres far far far more room with the Oyster Max.
