Uppababy Vista question (/M&P Sola)

Hi, I'm quite keen on this pram but have a quick question:

The pram (carrycot part) is suitable from birth, the seat from 6 months. Is a baby going to be happy in the pram part until it's 6 months old? The M&P Sola is tempting me instead because the seat is suitable from birth (and it's cheaper!) although have read a few reviews about the Sola. breaking quickly. Which puts me off.

6 months just seems a long time to use the carrycot part, I would have thought 3 months tops. But if the seat's not suitable until 6 months what do you do from 3 to 6 months?

The car seat you buy to go with it I presume would be used in the gap.

When I say I'm keen on this pram I mean the Uppababy, incase that's not clear.

I think the ages are guidelines, the uppababy seat reclines flat so no reason at all you couldn't use it earlier. Maybe think seat might swamp a smaller one but you could get a neck support/ lambskin/liner to cocoon baby a bit more. I'm thinking of getting this for DC3 due nov and it looks fab! I know people feel more 'careful ' with first born so you may not want to go against guidelines but honestly, most kids things have older age limits e.g toys for 4+ can be fine for younger kids etc

This is for my second baby, had a Stokke for DS and that had an insert for the seat that reduced the depth of it, surprised the uppababy doesn't have similar considering the price if it. Don't think I removed the stokke insert until DS was about 1! The uppababy seat is quite ddeep.

Also re: using the car seat, I prefer to leave that in the car and move the baby between pram and car seat so they're not stuck in it for too long.

I've got a Sola and it's still good at 11months. DS was fine with it lying flat. We love it. Incidentally we used a carrycot as a 1st cot (with extra matress) and DS grew out of it at 4 months.

I would never purchase anything big from m&p either, their customer service is appalling!

I haven't actually physically seen the Uppababy so you may be right about seat depth. I had a quinny buzz and used it from birth with just seat for both children. It was fine. Will check it out nearer time. I tend to have quite big babies so they have been fine sitting up in a seat from around 4/5 months. If this one is anything like the others I don't envisage to carry cot lasting to 6 months, anyway, they like looking about before then and would probs protest big time about lying down all the time. Was the Uppababy ok otherwise OP?!

I have the Vista, as does a friend. My DD is still in the carrycot at 5 months and is only just starting to get frustrated (when she's awake, but mostly she passes out in the cot). My friend has put her 4 mo DS in the seat unit a few times and he's been fine.

I have the Vista, DS was in the carrycot until about 4 months, and he is on the 99th centile, it really is a big carry cot compared to others.
When we moved him into the chair part we used this which makes it suitable for young babies, and actually only took it out when he was around 9 months.

Uppababy make a brilliant wedge thing that can make the pushchair bit almost flat. (It also fits the icandy strawberry which I have!). a pram specialist shop found it for us when I explained I wanted to make he pushchair bit flat, since three month dd was too big for the carrycot.

Yes there is a snug insert (I think its called) for the Vista to flatten it out, but its only suitable from 3 months. TBH most babies will be perfectly happy in a carrycot until 6 months - and the Vista carrycot is beautiful.
There is no comparison between the Vista and the Sola TBH. The Vista is far superior. If you got the Sola, the baby would still need to be laid back flat until 6 monthsish, so you may as well have the baby snug in a lovely carrycot (included in the Vista price anyway!)

I've got the uppababy, DD was only happy in the bassinet until she was about 10 weeks, then wanted to see what was going on. We bought the snugseat insert from the uppababy website, which has a back and head support and since 10 weeks we have used this in chair. It's about £30 but well worth it.

It's a great pushchair I would definitely recommend it.

I've got the Uppababy. DS hated the carrycot (nothing to do with the particular pram, he hated his moses basket, cot, swing, the list goes on...). I put him in the pushchair seat at 4.5 months and he was much happier. He's about 25th percentile, so not big and he did look a bit funny in it. He sat unsupported early though, at five months - maybe because of the pushchair?!?

Anyhow, I second what plummyjam said - it's a great pushchair! DS is now 15 months and loves it.

We have the Uppababy Vista and moved her into the seat at 3 months as she was pushing off with her feet and hitting her head (she is long for age) and it is much better than using a car seat. I undid the strap that goes over the frame where the seat and leg area meet and i unfastened the side straps in the leg area that go over the frame and made to foot strap as loose as possible.

This made the seat more sling like and as she was a side sleeper it meant she was comfy, even now at 8m it is now just connected but the side leg area straps are not over the frame and the foot strap is at its loosest.

I have used the Sola and the lack of suspension made my hands ache with every bump along the pavement.

I'm fairly sure that you can get an insert for the vista buggy seat that makes it suitable for newborns. My local store didn't know about it but it's on their website.

Really helpful, thanks all. Hadn't seen the insert before, looks ideal for the transition from cot to seat. Uppababy itis then! I do prefer it over all.
