double buggy?

Hello,
My due date is a week and a half before dd's first birthday so I have the headache joy of choosing a double buggy!
I need one which can turn back into a single, I was looking at the icandys however all tandems iv seen seem to compromise with the back seat! So I've been looking at the bugaboo donkey (currently own a cameleon) but the price tag is ridiculous!

Does anybody have any experience of the donkey? Or any double buggy that I can have a carry cot and seat unit on?

Thanks in advance

One friend had the brotax b dual? Both seats lie flat and are spacious? Or city mini jogger is not very wide for a side by side? Or u could sell ur bugaboo and put it towards the donkey?

AmandaPayneNeedsANap · 26/05/2013 22:03

I don't, but Donkeys in double mode seem very wide. I've seen quite a few stuck in doors, lifts, etc. Don't know if that is just because a lot of doubles are Phil and Ted style stackers these days.

The donkey isn't wide as side by sides go, it's 74cm which, apart from the mountain buggy duet at 63cm, is about as narrow as they come. Incidentally you can have the seat and a carrycot on the Duet so that maybe is an option. Are you wanting to be able to have both children face you?

I'm a big fan of tandems but I've only ever used doubles for siblings with much more like 2y age gaps than 1y, as such the elder child has never been a full time pushchair user so the restricted view from the lower seat thing hasn't mattered so much. Given your age gap I would lean towards a side by side if there are no limiting factors in your house/car/local area that make them impossible.

So side by sides that take a carrycot - Donkey, MB Duet, Out n About nipper V3 (not out yet), TFK Twinner Twist, Baby Jogger City Mini and GT, Stroll Air MyDuo (just about to arrive in the UK).

There are lot more... loads, that's just a short list to start you off thinking about what features you want the most Grin

Thanks for the replys!
Yes I would like to be able to have both children facing me, I love the way the donkey can have one seat parent facing and the other world, im not sure if any other does that or not.

Just discovered the mima kobi and in love! However I'm not paying 1200 for something with no storage!
The new I candy apple 2 pear looks good but I don't know when there actually releasing it.
This double thing is an mine field, they all have there cons I suppose iv just got to decide which things I can put up with and which I cant

I have the phil and teds classic and main criticism is you can't recline the seats so not good for toddlers that need to nap and the cocoon is rather small so has been outgrown quickly so if you go down phil and ted route get one of their more expensive models.
Also have a maclaren twin and blimin spindle inbetween the wheel buckled after using for the first time because we hung change bag over the handle bars so it can't take any extra weight as is so delicate Shock

I have the donkey. Personally for me; thw handling isn't heavy (I'm used to heavy stuff due to my profession), the conversion is simple and easy when you get used to it. Personally, I love it - only had it about a week though.

My dc love it too.

Before donkey I had BJCM GT double.

MultipleMama · 27/05/2013 10:20

Oh, I've never had problems getting through doors.

Ihateparties · 27/05/2013 10:45

If you want the option of both seats facing either way then there's a more limited selection. The donkey, stroll air my duo then a set of wider alternatives - the emmaljunga city nitro twin and monkey twin, the obaby zezu twin, twin freestyle cool.. and several more i can't bring to mind right now.

MultipleMama · 27/05/2013 13:46

There's also the ABC Zoom and the Brevi ovo twin. Though they are long.

I was going to say that i've seen the Apple 2 pear on icandys facebook page so it must be coming out soon. it looks amazing, i have the peach2 but kinda wish that the new apple had been around at the time. The colours look amazing, and is quite lightweight. have you seen the review that best buggy did? www.bestbuggy.co.uk/category/tandem-pushchairs/icandy-apple-2-pear/ i'm in love! :) xx

Tiggywunkle · 31/05/2013 16:01

I believe the Apple 2 Pear will be in the UK very soon :)

Have you had a look at the baby jogger city select? I have just got one for my two, there will be a 18 month gap. The rear seat is higher than the front so it doesn't have the problem where the rear child is sitting in the shopping basket.
