Argh! The perfect double pushchair doesn't exist!

Hi all

I am due to have DC2 in September and the lack of perfect double is doing my head in. If I like them to push round then they're a bugger to fold / massive folded, or the newborn doesn't have a carrycot or the seats look tiny. I have bored on discussed a bunch of pushchairs on here and still don't have a solution.

I have been told that the P+T is brilliant, that one kid sits below another isn't a problem but I plain hate pushing them, I find them really heavy.

I don't mind what they cost (within reason) but think I have to pick the perfect one first time as DH will be cross if I fill our entire house with pushchairs.

Sorry, just wanted a rant.

The new P&T navigator isn't heavy! I have one with a 2yo up top and a 3mo underneath, 3 tesco bags full and I can still push it with one hand. Its very manoeuvrable.

We researched loads and the only con we found with the P&T is that its big folded which doesn't really matter in our case as we have room.

The other double we considered was the icandy peach (or called something similar) but they are massive and a bit bling to my eyes.

i'm surprised you say you don't like pushing a P&T, they are onthe heavy side but by far the most manouvrable double I've pushed. I loved mine apart from getting it in and out of the boot.

How about an emmaljunga...?

They have a toddler seat to fit on the top of the carrycot and then pushchair... I had one when mine where little (they are now 13 & 14) but I have just ordered another one for my bump, as it was such a fantastic pram. They are quite if when folded but could be worth the compromise and so easy to push and both kids are comfy... And for the record, my sis has a Phil n teds (no idea on model) and it is really difficult to push.

p&t are heavy but theyre so manoeuvrable that its not a problem unless youre carrying it rather than pushing it, you could turn it on a hairpin. The most practical out of all the doubles by a long shot.

I didn't find the P&T particularly hard to push, did the tyres need blowing up a bit? Two children + all their crap are quite heavy regardless.

The best thing about it was the flexibility, even on one day out if toddler wants to walk then you can put the double seat on top and give LO a better view, it they then get tired you can put the flat bed down, when the older child outgrows it you don't have to buy a single buggy. You never have to push an empty seat.

There are lots of doubles lighter to push than p&ts by quite a bit, you just need to have tried a few before you discover this.

But yeeeaaah, there is no perfect one Sad

Ideally...

Side by side
Easy to push
Not too heavy
Not too wide
Enough room for DS (age 2) to be comfortable
Not too massive when folded
Option to have the baby facing me in a carrycot
Seats independently reclining

I had dismissed the Donkey as it is bulky when folded up but I'm coming back to it. I could get something else for the car boot.

Have you considered the baby jogger city mini? I too am looking to buy a double buggy just at the reading up & research stage though haven't got my hands on any yet, baby jogger seems to get positive reviews Smile

I saw and fell.in love with the Bugaboo Donkey in JL the other day. I actually wished for twins on the basis that I would have to trade up my Maclaren for a donkey.

I.know nothing about it other than it is beautiful.

I'm saying that i don't actually know how big the stroll air is folded or the tfk.

Am I remembering right that the v3 nipper is unlikely to arrive in time for you?

Mbs big folded.

Donkey with flatter folding chassis a possibility then.

As always its a limited field. There must be at least a few more that i'm forgetting...

The problem with a side-by-side containing a toddler and a newborn is that it's much heavier on one side than the other, which makes them hard to push/steer ime - unless someone has come up with a solution to this issue since I last needed a double which is perfectly possible Grin

They vary on that. Even the same model sometimes. Tiggy on this board had a mb duet that was awful for it, mine was fine, no hint of pulling towards weighted side.

I've got the mountain buggy duet - it is amazing and meets all of the criteria on your list. Costs about £520 online but resale at £400 on eBay if in vgc. Would thoroughly recommend for a 2.3 year old and newborn.

Have a look at the Joovy website. I've just bought one but haven't tested it yet as still pregnant.

I didn't want side by side as different weights, and didn't really like the look of the double decker types, so the caboose looks like it will suit what I wanted.

I just got the out n about nipper 360. Doesn't have a newborn carrycot but is a dream to push, very light and folds really easily.
And newborn is quite comfy with the insert you can buy as an add on.

I had a 360 double & used a Phil&teds cocoon in it - sewed a couple of goggles in to button it to and clipped in with straps. Wasn't rear facing but worked fine.

I feel your pain! I've just been through the same dilemma and have taken delivery today of a city mini jogger double. P+T wouldn't work for me as have to get buggy up & down flight of steps to flat and would whack back of babies head in shelf thingy if I bumped buggy down and it's too heavy and difficult to fold if I took kids out then got buggy into the flat. The city mini double seems really manoeuvrable and easy to push and folds up really easily and surprisingly small so am hoping it will work for us. Not sure yet if I'm going to get a carry cot for dc2 or not.
