Buggy solution for 3.6 yo & newborn

My DS will be 3.6 when this one arrives and at present he's v reliant on the buggy. I'd like to have a single buggy for DC2 with a buggy board but I'd welcome thoughts on whether I'm crazy to rely solely on a buggy board! He's not one to run off or need to be strapped in to keep him under control if that helps.

We have a M&P Sola but I don't think you can use it in carrycot mode with the buggy board - has anyone tried?

I'm tempted to get a bugaboo bee given that it's nice and small, great for a winter newborn, takes a car seat and has an extending handle bar so I won't be bending over so far to take account of the buggy board.

replying mainly to bump. I have a Bee and while I love it, I'm not sure if it's sturdy enough to take a baby, toddler and all associated paraphernalia. But I haven't tried it! perhaps someone will be along who has soon.

I see a couple of people daily who use the bee and board very successfully, they do seem to stand up to it even though I know what you mean, it kinda seems like they wouldn't.

OP if you think your elder child might benefit from a seated buggyboard there are a couple of good options there like the easy x rider or the kidsit. Otherwise I like the bugaboo board, I know some people don't. There is also a new version of the twoo seat for that I think.

Lascal boards fit on almost anything, I don't see why one wouldn't work on your sola. I had one on a glide, which is identical as far as i can see, i didn't use it with the carrycot though. I agree though that something with a telescopic handle will probably allow for better stride length. The babystyle oyster with its own board is something we hear good things about too.

I have to say the Bee wouldnt be my first choice. It feels flimsy as a single. I often have at least one wheel off the ground when cornering, and I dread to think how the weight of a buggy board would alter that. The Bee also is not very cosy for winter as well! The hood is high, the sides are open, and even with the cocoon, I can think of a lot more cosy pushchairs. But the Bee is handy, but I think much as I dislike the Sola, I would be trying a buggy board on the Sola and seeing how you get on.

Many thanks wise pushchair experts - I've just checked further and it looks like the lascal maxi works with the sola in carrycot mode which is pleasing. I just quite fancy avoiding the bulk and clutter of having a travel system as big as the sola (in carrycot mode it's a boot filler) so are there any suggestions for Bee alternatives - I.e. lightweight, takes a car seat, parent facing option, takes a buggy board, cosy for a winter newborn? Aha well that's the question.. the short answer really is no! Lots of people seem to be looking for this, many many of the questions on this board end up being a variation of "is there anything bee sized but sturdier" or with a carrycot etc. it's tricky as atm there really doesn't seem to be any real alternatives.

You could look at the new silver cross wayfarer, it's compact up but not particularly when folded plus carrycot as oppose to lie flat seat so another thing to fit in the car.

The new easywalker mini is something we are on the lookout for when it arrives but as with anything new you can't be sure without seeing, feeling, pushing using etc. how something is going to be.

Again though i know at least 3 families with toddlers and babies who use the bee and board daily and are very happy with that set up, it's worth at least a look.

Ha! Well that settles it: it's either the sola with buggy board or if I'm feeling ambitious a second hand bee with buggy board. DS can also learn to walk or bike instead- he loves his bike so that's the preferred option. Now to teach him that I can't just pick him up and carry him all the time ...

Scooting is another good option because there is always a scooter tug to pull him along or keep him close, and a hook for the scooter to go onto the pushchair if he wants to walk. Most 3 year olds love scooting.
