Somebody please talk sense to me about buying a used P&T double buggy.

Looking at these on ebay and feeling a bit mystefied. What features do I actually NEED for a newborn and a toddler?

I had in mind something where the toddler sits upright in front and the newborn is flat in the back in a sort of drop-down flap, encased in a basket-thingy. I swear I have seen lots of people in the park and on trains with this arrangement but all the pictures of P&T double-buggies on ebay look like they are suitable for two older children. Do you buy the newborn basket-thingy separately? Can all P&T double-buggy models accommodate newborns? I don't want to bid on a bargain only to discover that I can't use it until DC2 is over 6 months...

Anyone had success buying one of these second-hand and can tell me what bits I need?

There is a separate seat. You initially put it on the front as you say with the big baby in it, upright and not able to recline and the small baby underneath in a coffin like cave. Then within 3 nanoseconds the small baby will be too big for this arrangement, at which point you put the removable seat on the back. You are meant to put the small baby in this at this point and have it slouched down getting splattered in mud while your big child rides like the Queen of Sheba upfront and climbs in and out in and out. Which means in reality you will probably put the small baby upfront and the big baby underneath and your shopping and the rain cover, well you'll just have to balance those on your head because there is no where else for them to go

Basically there is more to it than the above but broadly speaking hmmm yep!

Look at the Jane Twone. It looks fantastic. It almost makes me want another baby

I've just bought a baby jogger city select as I liked it that it could look ok as a single or double and both proper seats.

I have a twone, love it but not without its issues either over who goes in what seat and when etc. Really lovely to push though and folds so small. Oh and don't expect to be taking much stuff with you either as there is zero basket space with two children in it. You need to add panniers or side nets or something.

Oh bloody hell, maybe it would be better to just not leave the house until 2015....? Thanks for the input!!!! Clearly further research required here.

I did find the p&t was the only thing that filled the gap I had. 2 yr gap, rural living, narrow pavements, shop doors with steps. I tried a few. It was the best of a bad bunch. I used it for a few months then bade it a merry farewell on eBay, recouping almost all the cost.
