Use the BJCM Double with 1 toddler or buy a 3rd pram?!

Seems really extreme to even consider buying a 3rd pram when we've only 2 children but starting to think it's the most logical (if expensive!) approach.

DD is 2, DS due in 7 weeks. She is a good walker but still uses her BJCM single most days so through a combination of money from family and the Boots sale we've managed to get a BJCM double.

The issue is, DH is a SAHP and will be at home whilst I'm on maternity leave, he'll be following his usual routine with DD whilst I go and do things with DS (we will also go out as a family or swap over so I get 1-1 time with DD too!).

With only 1 car there are going to be times when we both need a pram, especially as it will be mid winter and likely miserable weather.

How practical is using the double with only one passenger, DD is a big tall girl so I suspect it would be quite unbalanced and can't use the double with a car seat so limited use for DS. Anyone used one this way?? Would any of you sensible people buy another single or have I just fallen victim to pregnancy hormones??

To add to the issue, we've tried a number of the cheaper umbrella fold strollers and they are just to small/short for DD (and DH who is 6'3) so we'd probably be looking at another BJCM.

Why not use a wrap or sling for the first few months for ds and by the time he's too heavy dd will be walking more? Or get a second hand cheapy for ds. Try gumtree or eBay or you local facebook selling page or preloved or even freegle/freecycle. Perhaps even a charity shop. Although it may seem daft to buy another pram it really depends on how much it will be used. Even if its just once a week it may be worth it in the long run and you don't have to fork out a fortune.

Thanks Kentucky - sadly I just can't get on with slings due to back/pelvis problems. Tried endless slings with DD and none of them suited.

Can you buy second hand? If it saves your sanity then why not? I have two prams. One lives in the car and one in the house.

I'll probably end up with more than one double as well.

I don't think I'd be forking out for another bjcm but I would def get another buggy.
As it will be for your 2 year old, recline etc isn't really an issue, but for handle height and ease of use I'd look for a 2nd hand Maclaren techno or even something like a silver cross pop.
My dd is 6 and still fits in those with no problems. I would say a Maclaren Volvo as they are roomy, but your dh might not like the handle height (though its not like he would be using it much...

You do come across cheap BJCMs, I don't see why you couldn't get a bargain one of these if you like it. Or possibly a britax b agile as they're very similar indeed, the handle is lower though.

Tried the silver cross pop and DD wasn't comfortable in it - suspect she's inherited her mother's fussy streak

• Baby Jogger City Select (bought when DS2 was born)

This may not be the best place to ask this sort of advice as a good number of us have ahem.... lots of pushchairs. Lots being the more socially acceptable description...

Well I caved an bought another BJCM single - however this one is the 4 wheel version which I have justified by the fact it will be more stable than our current 3 wheeler when using the carrycot or car seat for DS. Our original 3 wheeler is as good as new 2 years later so I figure we will get some return on our investment when we sell them off in the future.

Having already got replacement seats for the double from the wonderful Kylie she had agreed to send me a replacement seat for this one too if I'm unlucky enough to get one of the saggy seat version (supplier couldn't guarantee when version I'd get!)
