Lightweight strollers that have a carrycot option?

minipie · 18/09/2012 16:32

Can anyone tell me some strollers that have a carrycot option? I am looking for something that will be a good lightweight stroller but which I could also put a carrycot on for the newborn stage.

Extending handles would be a bonus as I am short and DH is tall.

I know the BJCM fits this bill but are there others? and are they any good...?

thanks

PS Tiggy is your June here yet? Smile

Called Tommy's they hadn't heard about the June but willing to look onto to it.

I said there would be demand as no London stockists.

There number is 020 7635 9252 if you want to ask too.

Ok just called me back. They think it looks great. Thanked me for letting them know. Calling easywalker today!!!

minipie · 21/09/2012 11:04

Ooh Diamond well done! As you can see I have been trying to find a London June stockist too with no luck - I think I called tommys and they hadn't heard of it but I didn't think of trying to persuade them. Hopefully they had already noted my interest but I might try calling again to ask just to reinforce your message! Let me know if they do say they're going to carry it.

Will do. They are definitely going to look into it.

Would be crazy for them not too.

The June looks like the perfect London pushchair.

I'm going to call them Monday to check progress.

Fingers crossed.

Ihateparties · 21/09/2012 12:18

This is good news, it's a bit mental they haven't heard of it! I hope they do stock it cos once it is released and reviews come onto the net I bet there will be demand. I'm loving the pro active approach Diamond Grin

minipie · 21/09/2012 12:19

I remember one or two places (peppermint was one I think) said to me that they used to stock easywalker but stopped as they were an unreliable supplier. Hope that doesn't put tommys off. After all iCandy seems to be pretty useless as a supplier and they are still stocked in loads of places!

Ihateparties · 21/09/2012 13:30

I would have to ask Tiggy but I'm pretty sure was originally supposed to be um... June.

How unreliable they are or aren't as a supplier won't matter if they get stock. Hope they do.

I still think the June looks like the perfect everywhere pushchair, that's why we keep going on and on about it. It's unlikely to be literally perfect as nothing ever is but it certainly ticks an awful lot of boxes for being small but robust.

Tiggywunkle · 21/09/2012 15:48

First of all, no, I dont work for Easywalker lol nor anyone else! I am a full time mum who is just a pushchair nutcase. ihateparties and I got the chance to see the June along with hundreds of other pushchairs earlier this year and the June made a lasting impression on us both. I have had mine on order for months and really can not wait to try it out for real. The hard bit is that you never know what will have changed or happened since you last saw it, so I am just hoping it turns up and is as good as I remember.

I do know that Easywalker I know at present dont have any distributor directly here. They advertised for a sales rep in the UK but I dont know if one was appointed, but I believe that at least for this year Easywalker are going to deal with shops direct (with or without the rep??). So cutting out the middle man so to speak may actually help?

I think as Diamond has done with Tommy's - if you like the product then badger your local shop!! The June is also nothing like their previous products.

Why do I like the June?
First of all looks - it looks dinky when you see it in real life - but yet look at almost every promotional photo - there are bigger children in the seats and the June is carrying them all with ease. I have seen an adult sat in the seat. So its a robust product. But I love that it appears small - and everyone says it looks small - because there's no doubt people swap pushchairs later because they buy huge monstrosities of "prams" and dont think about real life!
The carrycot is gorgeous - big and roomy with layers of down or something fluffy in the top apron to keep the baby extra warm - I was amazed by this. There are bolsters and a strap inside to keep the baby from rolling. Again an attention to detail that is rarely seen.
The seat itself reclines flattish ie not a bucket. It seemed easy to do.
The buttons to change the seat around are under the front of the seat but I couldn't find them when I looked - but I didn't have long and its one thing I want to make sure is easy to do IYKWIM when mine arrives.
I love that the hood can tuck away behind the seat for an older child - it doesn't look quite as babyish.
I love that its customisable with different coloured hoods and liners.
I like the chunky off road wheels - it will go anywhere that we go in our normal life.
I like the neat fold - its a bit long for me - again I need to see it in my car - but it fits in a Mini.
There is a basket - again I dont know exactly how big this is - and the Versa and Cruz win on basket space.

So I do have outstanding questions - which I hope will get answered when it arrives. But they are queries rather than niggles....I am usually very good at spotting issues a mile away and there's nothing thats shouting at me.

The June is just very cute, very neat, very smart, robust, well thought out, lovely to push, pretty etc etc. It stands out amongst the competition. I am seriously excited about it!!!

Tiggywunkle · 21/09/2012 15:50

It is a shame that the price is putting people off - but think of it as ihateparties says, as an alternative to the Cameleon or an iCandy Peach....its definitely in that class of pushchairs and I think quite rightly has a similar price tag.

Brugmansia · 21/09/2012 16:49

How does the June compared with the chameleon in terms of size and weight? I've been put off by how heavy and bulky it seems, as I'm small and will be on London public transport a lot. I've been thinking of a bee for that reason. I was wondering if the June was maybe between the 2 in terms of weight/size, so could solve the concerns I have about both.

Diamond7 · 21/09/2012 17:45

Thanks Tiggy! I was only joking about you working for them.

You have me sold. You've even convinced me the price is worth it. As you say it has the features to make it last. I didn't want to spend a lot on a pushchair and then find myself buying a macclaren after 6mths.

I'm a convert!

Thank you for the review.

minipie · 21/09/2012 18:04

Brugmansia it's definitely narrower than the Cam from what I recall - I think the cam is 60cm wide and the June is 56cm? Also the handle goes down to 88cm (a real boon for me as a short person, similar to the Bee I believe) so it can tuck into small space more easily. Cam goes down to 95cm. It may also be shorter than the cam - certainly the cam carrycot is very very long and bulky. I don't know the June carrycot dimensions but I'll bet it's shorter than the cam simply because everything is!

Weight wise, well I find it hard to find out the weight of the cam but I have read anything from 9.3 kg to 10.5 kg. June is 9.9. Bee is lighter, 8.6 I think. So weight wise it's more like a cam.

You might also like the Uppababy Cruz, it is similar size and weight wise to the June and less bulky feeling than the Cam. Only thing is that its lowest handle height is about 100 cm which is a bit too high for me at 5'3. That's the main benefit for me of the June over the cruz I think.

Mine arrives on Thursday apparently, so let me give it a good once over - its one thing to see a pushchair at a show even if you do get a play, and another to have the finished product here and using it in real life. One thing I hate to do is to recommend a product without knowing if it really is good or not. In theory the June should be great based on what I have seen and know....but lets see next week. My hunches are rarely wrong!!

The June is ever so slightly heavier than the Cameleon3 - 0.9kgs which isn't much, but its not going to be between the Bee and the Cam. The weight is noticeable because the June looks small - its surprising when you pick it up. The major major advantages of the June though is that it is a one piece fold so you wouldn't have two parts plus a baby to deal with on a bus after 6 months AND it folds flat with the seat facing in either direction. Its easy to tow the June behind you too.

Brugmansia - one thing I like on public transport is the ability to drop the handle down low thus taking up less space. The Bee and June probably do this better than the Cameleon. If you need to fold a pushchair for public transport, then the ability to fold a pushchair easily, and carry it, and your child onto the bus easily really should ride over everything else to be honest. Visualise yourself standing at the bus stop. Where will you put a wriggly 10kg crawling baby whilst you fold your pushchair and carry it on? You really can't beat the Baby Joggers for the awesome one handed fold and carry the baby on under the other arm. The Babyzen's do this well too.

Ihateparties · 21/09/2012 19:04

Whoever ^ up there ^ thought the June seems heavy and bulky is going to be in trouble! It's one of the smallest full featured pushchairs you can find. The bee is 53.5cm I think so 1.5 narrower, not sure on length TBH. It's definitely far from bulky in pushchair terms though!

minipie · 21/09/2012 19:11

It's funny parties because I spoke to the man in Peppermint today about the June and he said he'd seen someone with one in the park and thought it looked bulky. (I was surprised but assumed he was just saying that since they don't stock it Wink)

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 21/09/2012 19:16

Seeing as they aren't out here that seems strange unless it has been imported. I wonder if he's thinking of the Sky or Qtro which are um.. bulky.

minipie · 21/09/2012 19:17

yes good point!

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 21/09/2012 19:32

It could have been an imported one, I have imported several things this year and I refuse to believe it's just me that does it!

Diamond7 · 21/09/2012 19:33

You can import, it word out a little cheaper but even if you did import I can't see how it'd be here already? But it is possible.

I prefer sturdier looking. I fine the bee a little twee. As long at the June is narrowish and I can pick it up I'm happy. I find the Cruz easy to lift but found the Cam harder as the weight isn't evenly distributed.

Ihateparties · 21/09/2012 19:38

It's been out in the netherlands for a while, a few of us have had fingers on the trigger but no one actually did it, hardly any point now it's virtually here, you don't save anything substantial. June is 55cm wide I think. I am totally obsessed with width...

Diamond7 · 21/09/2012 19:39

You can import from here.

www.babyjungle.nl/easywalker-june-p-16477.html

Works out as £631.92 with delivery (inc carrycot). Think it works out £675 in the UK.

Diamond7 · 21/09/2012 19:40

Cross posted.

Yeah I'm not sure it's worth it to save £44!

Ihateparties · 21/09/2012 19:45

Oh I'm so tempted. You lot are agonising over it for your first baby when you could get years and years of use out of it, I'm still considering selling a kidney for one for my 7mo DC3... or as I prefer to call her dcLAST!

Diamond7 · 21/09/2012 19:52

The resale value would be good I think. So even if you don't get to use it for that long then it'll still be worth it............................

I'm sold!

Ihateparties · 21/09/2012 19:58

Me too. Once the Tandem is gone I'm getting one... Wink

Brugmansia · 21/09/2012 20:05

My post was a bit ambiguous I think. It was the Cam I was referring to as heavy and bulky. This is based on a friend's comments - she loves hers but has said it is heavy. I was wondering if the June was more compact, while being sturdier than the Bee and also having the option of a carry cot.

On London buses people seen to keep prams and the like unfolded, but being compact and maneuverable would be important. The other on my current shortlist is the versa.

I'm 5'1" so Cruz is probably too tall.
