Double pushchair with sling?

Hi All, I have 17 month old twins (one of which has only just started walking and the other still can't walk!) and I am 7 months pregnant (with 1 baby, thankfully) - Just wondering how do-able it will be to push a double pushchair with baby in a sling? We're hoping that we'll be able to do this until we can get one of our twins on a buggy board as we really can't afford the expense of a triple pushchair. For big trips out we've got a double & a single so if me and OH are out won't be an issue.

Yes I have done this. Just make sure you invest in a good sling that is supported on hips and shoulders as this will prevent your back hurting. Avoid babybjorn style as they only are use for first few weeks really

What double do you have? An umbrella style is heavy and difficult to push IMO but most others ok. Side by side prob easiest for you to push and carry baby

Wow - your baby weight isn't going to last long !! It's perfectly doable I am sure but as it is coming into winter, I would be inclined to bite the bullet and just buy a triple on ebay/gumtree/freecycle. That way you can be sure everyone is snugly wrapped up and you are not outside in a bad rainstorm struggling with trying to keep yourself and a newborn dry while having your hands full with a twin pushchair. Total PITA to end up with three pushchairs though. Realistically, your twins are going to be using a pram for quite a while longer unless you have time to walk everywhere vvvvvvvvvvvvv slowly.

If you get a decent sling and possibly a baby wearing coat, you'll be fine.

As far as slings go, ergo, boba 3G, beco butterfly or Gemini or a baby hawk oh snap.

Honestly would stick to double and sling as you asked

A few months and a buggy board can be used ( we used from 15 months but they were walking at 11months)

With 3 under 2 ' rushing ' about really doesn't need to happen for a while. Just allowing you all to get to shops if needed or park is adequate. Like you say in a few months can rotate who walks/ rides/ boards/ slings

Also a double fits in car or on bus if you need and v few if any triples would

From around 2 we haven't used a buggy at all so 6 months down the line you may just be using a single for baby and eldest on reins walking etc..

If worse comes to worse and you really need one you can buy one later

Thanks all, that's what we were thinking - We already have 3 doubles, an oBaby Zoom tandem, an Out n'About Nipper side by side and a McClaren umbrella type (which we only really use for hols) and a single oBaby Condor, so really don't want to find the money or space for a 5th pushchair :)

DP only works 2 days a week so whilst I'm on maternity leave the only trip I'll need to make on my own is a 10 minute walk to nursery and back, and hopefully when I go back to work DP will be able to get away with the tandem with buggy board (praying that boys will be able to both walk at 26 months!)

I'd not heard of a baby wearing coat Tribble - where do you get those from? Was leaning towards a wrap style sling I think.

Could you sell one of your doubles you already have to put the money towards the triple? Kiddicare have two different triple pushchairs under £200. If you are going to use a sling though i would invest in a good supportive one that wont put strain on your back and is going to last a good few months.

Halestones I did this using a wrap sling. I had DS3 when DS2 was 15 months old and DS1 was 2 and a half. DS1 has ASD (didn't know that then!) and refused to walk any where, so I needed the double pushchair if we were to get any where.
It was hard work (we live in a hilly area!), but it worked, and once I had DS1 in school, and DS2 in pre school, I would choose to sling DS3 rather than use a pushchair, we enjoyed it so much.

I didn't use a baby wearing coat as I couldn't afford it, but I always felt so long as he had thick socks and a hat, the sling offered plenty of warmth and protection from the weather. Having said that, TKMaxx today had a lovely selection of wrap shawl/poncho things that would be great for baby wearing.

Hmmm it's a shame one isn't a baby jogger....I have used (not safety tested so am not suggesting) a Baby Jogger City Mini (and a friend with a young toddler and newborn twins does this with an Elite)....and reclined one seat, pushed the baby right to the back harnessed in then added on a harness for the toddler who then can sit squarely on the seat pad. Both children have loads of room. The toddler jst needs to be sensible and not lean back! The Elite mum also has a Buggypod Io (not the other rubbish ones) for on a tandem. She's managing to get by at present. Look also at sit down buggy boards.

I would recommend you look at the mountain buggy (i have the duo) for doing what Tiggy suggested. I have my younger ones in the seats and the 4 y old perched on the metal footrest with his feet perched on the wheelguards. He is stable and comfy for short rides ( but not safe so i am in no way recommending this for safety reasons but it works for me for when he wants to rest) also the MB is great for the buggy board as the 4y old can stand on the board and have his upper body between the pram and the handle and he is stable and can see above the pram. We love it! I have had 3 little ones ride the footrest around Legoland, so its versatile and has been a godsend!!!!

Forgot to add I have the Kid-Sit buggyboard, this too has been fab! Have taken off the seat this year and am just using the board.

Thanks all for your ideas. Unfortunately neither of my twins are sensible enough yet for a buggy board or not to lean back on a baby! My Kari-Me has arrived today so I think I'll try to get by with the sling & hope they are able to use a buggy board soon!

easy x rider buggyboard? Look on ebay or google it. Proper seat and lap belt, so get-out-able but not in an instant. I had one with a carrycot pram and really liked it for shorter trips. Not sure how or if it would fit on the pushchairs you currently have though. Hmmm. Worth a look perhaps.

I did this too. When ds3 was born, ds2 was 20 months, ds1 was 3.5 but has ASD with low muscle tone (as well as very unpredictable behaviour when it comes to road) thus tires very easily. I had a Manduca sling which was fab. I also tucked him into my warm fleece jacket to give extra warmth in winter. I really think that if it's just for short walks to nursery it will be absolutely fine!
