Putting a double pushchair on the roof of the car

Hello this is my first post,
I am transporting quite a few family members to/from the airport and will have limited space for luggage - the biggest headache being a double side-by-side pushchair (umbrella folding style). I was thinking if it is ok to put it on the car roof - I do have built-in roof rails and intend to buy roof bars to go across aswell and a few bungee cords.

Has anyone done this before? Is it illegal? Seriously I tried searching for "pushchair car roof" and I cannot find any advice...

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Jason

I think its fine as long as its secured. One of the MN-ers here had her double forced onto the roofrack by her inlaws recently (much to her horror!).

Do take the children out of it first.

i can't think of any reason why it would be illegal?

roofracks are for carrying stuff... as long as you fix it securely what would the problem be?

It may get a bit grubby though - and very wet if it rains :)

Cover it or put in a large bag first :)

Shove it in a couple of bin bags. It will be fine.

Many thanks for your replies. Well, a pushchair is supposed to be waterproof but it does make sense to wrap it up to keep it clean.
