Pear or something else?

DD will be 2.5 when DC2 is born.

We currently have an Apple jogger, so the obvious choice would probably be to convert it into the Pear.

Except that because it was bought as a jogger, we have been told that we have to convert it to a 4-wheeler first, and then convert to a double. We haven't been told exactly what turning it from 3 to 4 wheels would be (it's not on the standard price list) but the shop we were in assumed the same a buying a jogger wheel.

This starts to put the price up, so that it isn't such an obvious choice any more. Especially since we prefer 3 wheels (the apple was good in the snow, which we get a fair bit of in the winter).

Are there any other tandems which would be a good alternative for this age gap? I want to use our cabriofix car seat with it, and would prefer 3 wheels.

There isn't a good 3 wheeler for your age gap. The Jane Powertwin is one of the few but it has an incredibly short leg Length at the front and toddlers can then stop the front wheel by putting their feet on it. Most tandem three wheelers have very little leg room at the front except the Mountain Buggy +One which is worth considering but only if your eldest doesn't nap.

I agree that it's going to be pricey to convert your Apple to a Pear - its often cheaper to recoup your Apple money and buy a second hand Pear.
The Pear is a pretty good tandem but the Peach Blossom is easier to push and has a smaller turning circle.

Other good options are the Britax B-Dual, Jane Twone, Smyths Dimples Duo and Micralite Twofold when it does out.

Thanks. I know it's an awkward gap. 6 months more and we could probably get away without a double.

DD only naps in the pushchair when she is desperately tired, and in that state she has managed to sleep in a supermarket trolley.

I'll have to find somewhere to look at the mountain buggy. I do like the fact it seems to cater for older children than the Pear. DD is fairly small, but the Pear says is goes to 3 vs the mountain buggy's 4, so we'd probably get more use from the mountain buggy.

I think DD has managed to devalue our apple, with her very recent habit of biting chunks out of the bumper bar and trying to eat them. But yes, selling and getting a 2nd hand pear is an option.
