Single buggy that converts?

I'm brand new to the pushchair board and fairly new to MN although have become quickly aware of the wealth of knowledge on these pages! I need advice if possible. Have a 16 month old and have been intending, but not yet got round to it, to get a Maclaren type pushchair to replace the huge travel system O Baby he is in now. But... Find out two days ago am pregnant with DC2. So I am wondering and hoping if a pushchair exists that will - suit 16 month old now and be light, manoeuvrable etc, convert to a double in January when new baby here and will take a maxi cosi car seat for little one. Am I being realistic? Does such a thing exist? Thank you, I am trying to navigate my way round baby websites but having little luck in deciphering what's what.

The bugaboo donkey does all that but it's very very expensive.

Right ok, will have a look. Thought that was very wide but perhaps not? Always wanted a bugaboo chameleon with first but ended up with a ( much appreciated) hand me down. Maybe that would satisfy my inner Bugaboo love! Will be a Christmas and 2 x birthday pressy for literally everyone so may just be able to stretch to it! Thank you.

icandy peach is a single but you can get a conversion kit to turn it into a peach blossom double. Takes a maxi cosi or carrycot or two stroller seats.

oh and congratulations :)

Congratulations!
Go and have a look around Best Buggy and the tandem pushchairs section. There's a lot of choice really depending on your budget: Bugaboo Donkey, iCandy Peach Blossom, iCandy Pear, Britax B-Dual, Kidz Kargo Duellette, Babystyle Oyster Max, Mima Kobi, some Phil&Teds, Baby Jogger City Select and probably more but its too early for my pushchair brain to be fully awake!

I have the phil and teds dash model and for me personally it was the worst thing I could have got. I live rurally and the tyres on it are so flimy I am repairing pretty much 3 times a week which is annoying and when it is running on a flat it is heavier (it's pretty heavy anyway) and impossible to steer. Can't be steered one handed, there is no option for a buggy board when your toddler get older, the raincover is flimsy abnd easy for the lower one to reach and pull off, there is no basket as that is where the lower one goes. The pros are it isn't much wider than a standard single if you don't buy the panniers if you do then it is the same as a side by side. It coverts back to single when baby when toddler is older and saves on new buggy buy.

I can't offer any advice on other pushchairs but I would advise if you live anywhere where there are likely to be thorns I would avoid this altogether even slime and anti puncture inlay doesn't help much.

Tiggy is the master of this one I think. Personally I think the iCandy peach is the only thing available currently that you can sensibly use as a single and a double without a million compromises. I'm waiting for a Jane Twone cos the icandy prices are eyewatering. When the new peach comes out properly so the rear seat is bigger and more upright than the current one then I may well save up for one. Depends what the Twone is like.

Apart from the Peach I remain unconvinced that it's a good idea to try and do everything with one pushchair.

vespalover · 23/05/2012 19:36

Do you know when the new Peach is out? Am amazed by people's detailed knowledge!

I have a britax b-dual and love it. It can parent face in single mode, has a huge basket, both seats recline flat (unlike the Phil and Teds), the hoods are huge and have sunscreen panels to make them even huger and I can steer it with one hand! Oh, and it folds with both seats on :)

It is wide for a single tho, and big when folded. But it works for me!

Ihateparties · 23/05/2012 21:09

Wish I knew when the Peach was coming! Tiggy will probably have more detailed information but as far as I know there are no confirmed dates presently. As a general guide... this year.. sometime?!
Incidentally I had a B Dual too and concur with the above, it is all of the things described, the one handed pushing being my particular favourite but I live somewhere compact both the house and the pavements etc. so it really did not work for me for the whole 67/73cm wide thing without/with wheel guards. Apart from the width I didn't find the whole thing to be ridiculously massive though, it doesn't feel really long or anything and is very nice to push. Just couldn't handle the width.

Tiggywunkle · 23/05/2012 21:23

I believe...but please dont quote me on this...that the first independent retailers will have all the parts for the Blossom kit (ie seats, carrycots etc) in August. There may be parts before, or JL may (or may not) get parts before too. But I think August is a realistic date - at least for the first colour. The other colours no doubt will be later. Oh and if you haven't already ordered, it may well be 2013...

vespalover · 23/05/2012 22:47

Right then I think Im going to need a spreadsheet! Can't get past the fact that they all seem very bulky as a single for now and I wonder if will be much smaller than my existing travel system. May need to bite the bullet and get a cheap second hand stroller for now and then the double later? Pre spreadsheet (!) the baby style oyster max is looking good but will report back my findings/ decision! Thank you all very much, you have made a confusing world much clearer x
