air filled tires? what kit?

i just realised the buggy I am looking at has air rather than foam/no puncture/whatever they normally are...

can anyone tell me advice? was this a problem? I am going all over london and I can't imagine getting a flat in the pouring rain. What do you do?

do you have to carry around a pump? where do you get one? isn't this rather annoying?

If you go to a bike shop, there is some gunk that you can buy to squirt into your tyres, so that if you run over a nail, the gunk fills the hole. It worked for us.

Punctures don't happen often, if they do just repair them like a bike puncture or get a new inner tube (usually a 12 inch one for a children's bike. I keep a pump on the pushchair (there is a special strap in the basket) but I don't think I have ever used it out and about - I just limp home. Have bought some of Betty's special gunk but not got round to using it.

The gunk is called "Slime" - its bright green and easily found on Ebay.

It's never occurred to me to worry about punctures. I've got a pushchair with air tyres that has been used regularly for 6 years and still has the original tyres with no repairs. And I had one last year that was 3 years old without having ever had a puncture.

I think you'd only get one if it is a Phil and Teds had poor quality tyres or you go through woods with thorns and spikey twigs.

I've had a few air tyres pushchairs but have never had a puncture, even though there's quite a few rude people where i live that do leave broken glass on the floor.

I have a P&T and have never had a puncture. THis may be because it is an older model though or it may be that I've just been really lucky. I've also got a mamas and papas pramette and two maclaren buggies (yes, we do have too many). Each of the other three have solid wheels which have worn away. I had to get the M&P wheels replaced because they were so worn and will throw the buggy away soon because they will be too worn to use and the buggy is so old now that it isn't worth getting them repaired. Overall, I much prefer the air tyres on the P&T.
