What is the Oyster like?

Just been looking at pushchairs and I really like the Oyster and wondered what people think of it.

Would you recommend it or not?

It's a very good all rounder in my opinion. The only issue is that the seat back isn't that tall so it's not really suitable for tall toddlers. My sister has one and bought the air tyres to go with it which made a big difference to how light it is to push and they absorb bumps on the ground well. They cost about £25. One problem has been that the suspension on the front wheels was too soft so it can buckle going down biggish kerbs. I've heard this has bern remedied, but no personal confirmation.

Overall, it has a lovely big hood, good adjustable handle, good sized basket, fairly compact fold, is very narrow for a proper pushchair, is easy to steer and it's nice to be able to change the colour. I would recommend it to anyone with a budget of about £350-400 all in.

What exactly is your budget and needs? And when do you need it for? Also, would you buy second hand? We could probably suggest some other options for you to look at.

It's from newborn we need it. I do lots of walking to do the school run as DP works away and I don't drive.

It's between this and the M&P ultima as I've had one before and I love them. We don't like anything else we've looked at really.

I really like mine. It is very easy to push, fits through narrow gaps and has a very small turning circle. It also looks nice :)

I have to agree with Hypathia re the seat height though, I can't imagine a 3 year old fitting in it very well, at least not with the hood on it.

If you want to use it for a newborn you will need to buy a carrycot which will increase your price but you could easily pick that up secondhand to save on cost and it is unlikely to have had much use. I used my carrycot instead of having a Moses basket downstairs and it worked out well for us.

I love my Oyster. I think the only thing I'd sell it for is the new Oyster Max that will be out later this year hopefully!

It's a great pushchair for the price. Works reasonably well off road, especially with the air tyres. I'd imagine it's a lot better on bumpy ground than the Ultima with MPX chassis. It's also lighter and narrower.

I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't have £700+ to spend, and two of my pregnant friends have just bought the Oyster too!

I'd agree totally with patches about the carrycot, I'd buy second hand, although you may want a new mattress.
