BJCM GTI/Elite dilemma

You really helped me recently when I was deciding on my purchase of the Elite, it was love at first sight, but I've had a problem with it actually not 1 but 3 problems, I'm on my 3rd Elite in a few weeks (first a screw dropped out of the chassis as I removed it from the box; second the break did not work on both back wheels). Now this one has attack of the trolley wheel which we thought would go given a bit of use but it isn't and it is sending us bananas, and also it squeaks.

I love this pushchair in that on paper it has everything, when it works it is fabulous, the handling and the fold the best things (having used pushchair no 2 for a couple of wks which didn't have the trolley wheel thing). But I bought through boots.com they don't have another to send out, so its refund only. I said I'd talk to the UK Baby Jogger service centre first, they have suggested I take of all wheels, lubricate and ensure the axle on the front wheel (which is being rebellious) has no movement (it may be loose causing the difficulty)

I'm yet to get the wheels off and WD40 out as DH thinks enough is enough, get our money back, but then we have no pushchair, I think the BJCM GTI would be great for us but its not yet out is it? I still have my old (stokke) but its prepared for sale and we really need something all terrain for the the winter.

I figured you would know what to do, should I try to sort these wheels in the hope this is the last thing to go wrong or cut my losses! I've been on ebay looking for something 2nd hand to tide us over but having had all these problems with new what's a 2nd hand one going to be like!!

Sorry I've been boring....thanks for reading :)

I am sorry you have had such bad luck. Baby Jogger products are usually good. I will be watching my Boots bought Elite carefully!!

The Baby Jogger City Mini GT certainly isn't an option at present. I suspect it won't be seen until spring at the earliest.

Will Kooltrade swap the wheels for you? Can you take the refund and buy somewhere else where you can try an Elite first?

But I can well understand you wanting to cut your losses and have a change. If so, can you remind us of what you were looking for? There are lots of other options, it's just which could suit.

Get a BJ summit from Nigel at www.pushchairs.co.uk? It's got larger rear wheels, and a foot brake but additional handbrake too. It also has rear wheel suspension. Ive not had problems with the baby jogger brand, so perhaps boots had a faulty batch delivered.
I really recommend the summit, but if you prefer the features of the elite perhaps get one from www.pushchairs.co.uk perhaps email first and explain the issues you've had and Nigel might check yours over before sending to make sure it's all fine. You will get a more personal service. Ive shopped with him many times over the years and never had a problem.

Thank you for the replies, I've been on the phone to the service centre, we have lubricated all wheels and checked the spoke is solid (no movement) they have sent a new wheel but DH still thinks it isn't handling right.

I'm yet to try it myself I will tomorrow, but I'm wondering brassMonkey what you like about the summit, I've checked the brochure and I can see little difference, do you know what I'm missing out on? I think the wheels are larger and as you say the suspesion better - is there anything I should know

How upgright do you find it sits also please?

This sounds like we are massively fussy and always sending things back but its not the case! I'm back to work now (and going bananas) and could really do without the hassle!

The summit doesn't have full recline to horizontal, but far enough for a sleep. The summit has a foot brake plus disc brakes on the rear wheels....for speed control down steep slopes.
The summit has much bigger rear wheels too and very good suspension that is different to any other all terrain. It is described best www.pushchairs.co.uk
The handlebar is fixed for strength.

If you do give up on baby jogger, and despite that I love my baby joggers I wouldn't blame you at all given your disappointment....
Try looking on www.babyjungle.nl at the Easywalker Qtro and Easywalker Sky...they are both on sale and work out at about £423 shipped to the uk. This brand is renowned for excellent build quality, extreme sturdiness and has a 2y guarantee. They look fab and come in lots of colour choice. There are some snuggle bags on offer on the same site that fit all models of Easywalker and only cost £20 too!!
