When do they go upright?

Hi, my boy is 14 weeks old, and from all the books and everything I always assumed he'd go in the pram for 6 months, and then go into the chair. Now six months seems like a long time to wait. When did yours start using a pushchair, rather than lying flat in a pram?

about 4.5 - 5 months for DD - but she had awful reflux and had been on a slope in the pram anyway - DS was just over 5 months I think! :)

5.5 months. I held off as long as I could with both children but DD could sit unassisted at 3 months and was crawling at 6 months. I would leave it as long as you can though.

I moved dd at 4 months as she hated lying flat and cried. I did try to keep the seat as reclined as she would allow though.

I had a parent facing pushchair which lay flat, so when he got to 3 or 4 months and started wanting to look around I would raise it up to a semi-reclined position, like a car seat, when he was awake, and then lie it flat again if he fell asleep.

I'd say if your pushchair is quite upright then wait until they can sit with support and hold their head up for a good length of time.

Great, that's very informative, thank you all. He wants to look around but cannot hold himself up at all, so I will hold off for a good while.

DD went into a Bugaboo Frog seat at 8 weeks as she screamed if laid flat in the carrycot or her Silver Cross pram...She went on to sit unsupported at 17 weeks and had always been very firm from birth, so wasn't at all floppy.

DD was very strong (I have a photo of her standing against the sofa at 3.5 months! Shock) so not necessarily the same as others. I bought an oyster when she was 3.5 months and decided not to bother buying a carrycot. I did usually keep her as reclined as it'll go which is quite flat, but lifted it up a bit pretty often.

Luckily most pushchair seats recline a decent way so you don't necessarily need to wait until he can sit unaided before moving him. What pushchair do you have?
