BJCM for a newborn?

Love my BJCM and am using it with the compact carrycot as DS is only 4 weeks old so needs to lie flat. However, I'm not allowed on our local buses with it as all pushchairs have to fold in a single unit!

The BJCM seat back seems to lie nearly flat-could I safely use a cocoon type thing? If so, any recommendations?

Anyone know how long babies have to lie flat for?!

Yes definitely - the BJCM lies flat and is suitable from birth. The compact carrycot has only been here a few months. I used to use a Bugaboo Cocoon in mine - I liked the fact it used the harness to kerp the baby safe but it was simple to pull out with the baby inside if necessary.

That's great, thanks Tiggy! Wish I'd checked out the local bus policy before bothering with the carrycot, but there's always Ebay!

Oh and it's also recommended babies lie flat until 6 months old but it depends on your child. If they aren't sitting up independently then I would leave them the full 6 months.

Sorry that came out all wrong. 6 months is the recommended length of time for a baby to lie flat.

But my DD was crawling by 6 months, so at 5 months we started to sit up her upright. DS used to protest if he was reclined after 5.5 months.

I'm really glad we can use it without the carrycot then, 6 months is a long time to be banned from the bus. Have you ever used the Baby Jogger footmuff? Any good?

I heard recently that the new ones aren't very good :(
Buggysnuggles are great but may trail when you get on the bus.

I had one of the new BJ footmuffs and have just sold it. It did keep baby really warm but it had a shiny backing which meant it kept slipping down and there wasn't any real mechanism to attach it to the pushchair apart from where it goes under the pull handle. The lack of attachment also meant there was a fair bit of flapping when folded. My other bugbear with it was that it only had one zip so you could only undo one side to fold back if baby got hot.

On recommendation from here I've now got a red star fur buggy snuggle which I much prefer. I've had lots of comments on how lovely it looks and having hooked it through the mesh at the top its really quite secure. Like the fact it has a double zip so can be unzipped from both sides and that it's so soft so can be tucked right in around baby to keep them warm.
