Bugaboo footmuff - how do I get the straps through?
FormerXibishonist · 12/11/2011 16:42
I've got a Bugaboo donkey and as it's getting chillier I'm trying to attach the footmuff to the pushchair, but not having much luck. Unlike other pushchairs I've had, the straps don't feed through the back and they don't clip on and off - they are completely stitched and I can't undo them. So how do I get the straps through the footmuff? The instruction booklet has a very vague drawing that doesn't actually show you how to detach the straps. I know the donkey is a pretty new model, but maybe it's the same set-up as the cameleon? Advice please, before I explode and my daughter freezes to death!

You basically can't...Maybe there's a specific Donkey footmuff...I never looked into it because i never strap DD in.

Hmmm I ordered the footmuff at the time that I ordered the Donkey, so surely they would have sent the one that's compatible. However, they sent me a cup-holder that wasn't compatible so you never know. I'll get in touch with the supplier. Not having much luck on the Bugaboo website.

I bought mine on the first day of sale so it wasn't footmuff season and there were only limited accessories at that time...The Donkey footmuff needs some sort of open top that you can zip or popper back together, once the harnesses are in place...People are selling custom seat liners etc etc on eBay probably not realising the fixed harness situation as they just say they're suitable for all Bugaboo models.

Are they not clipped on at the buckle or side at the waist?
There's certainly photos online of Donkeys with Bugaboo footmuffs on.
Failing that, if you haven't bought a footmuff then buy one of the new Buggsnuggles which have a slit for the whole shoulder / waist harness to go through. They hook over the back like a Bugaboo one does.

I have just been looking through all the Donkey user guides and they are fixed aren't they! The normal Bugaboo footmuff guide doesn't say it fits the Donkey. I think I would give your retailer a call :)

I'm pretty sure that the Bugaboo footmuff I bought had Donkey written on the packaging [she says as she rifles through the rubbish bin]. However, I pre-ordered the Donkey and received it in May. Therefore, like Suzie 38 has already said, there were only limited accessories available and it wasn't footmuff season. I've contacted the on-line retailer.

Hmmmm, the plot thickens: John Lewis stocks Bugaboo's 'universal' footmuff which is suitable for Gecko, Bee, Cameleon and Donkey. The picture looks just like the one I have. I'll try speaking to someone at John Lewis as their customer service is pretty good.
FormerXibishonist · 13/11/2011 10:13
John Lewis have solved the mystery: although the straps are indeed stitched on, only one of the plastic buckles/straps slides out - it's the one round the waist (NOT the shoulder straps as the user guide seems to suggest) - allowing you to feed the straps through the holes and re-attach.

I've took mine apart today for cleaning ahead of listing...Yes i think you can unthread the waist straps...Didn't try it, in case i couldn't get it all back together again.
angeladelights · 16/11/2011 13:51
help! I unthreaded the waist straps to try and get my footmuff on and now can't thread it back through again- the stitching at the end of the thread is so thick, it won't push through the buckle again :( What am i going to do? I can't use the buggy without the harness being secure as my baby is constantly lunging herself forward...
Tiggywunkle · 16/11/2011 14:21
Would it work to put a safety pin on the end and feed it through? Personally, I would be phoning your retailer or Bugaboo!
HouseofBaby · 17/11/2011 14:39
Hi On the donkey you need to unthread the should straps as if you were altering them but the strap comes right out of the buckle. Then thread the straps through the footmuff openings from the waist upwards. Then re-buckle at the top. It is a bit fidderly. There is no specific footmuff for the Donkey just the universal footmuff which fits the Bee, Cameleon and Donkey.
Hope that helps.
