Savvy pushchair people a few questions from a novice about my next purchase please...

I've been on the board this week posted a Q about the BJCM and lurking, clearly some of you really know your stuff and I'm impressed! Would you consider a few questions please?

I have a stokke, we really like it, but now I find its taking up so much room in the car, unsuitable for holidays, it's too big to store in the house so its in an out the car and I'd like something more convenient. Not sure if that should be as well as or instead of?

First I thought a 2nd (umbrella) type buggy but I've been advised they may not deliver for me as I do quite a bit of walking including rough paths. So now I'm wondering...

1 Should I sell my pushchair and get a more compact all rounder or keep both and purchase a cheap 2nd pushchair?
2 I think I like the BJCM (completely blown away by how easy it was to fold and open) is this good call as an all rounder if I got rid of my current one or will I really miss it!?
3 Would you recommend any alternatives to the BJCM?
4 If I sell my pushchair, where do you suggest as a good place/way?
Other info:

  • We are both very tall (5ft9 and 6ft2)
  • Baby is 13 months and 98th/99.6th centile for weight/height, she has just begun walking

Personally I would sell the Stokke and get a Baby Jogger Elite instead. It has the wonderful fold of the City Mini but is much better ie adjustable handle, handbrake, better padded seats, more storage, lift up calf rest, better footrest and more. But best of all it's got good chunky forever air tyres. It folds down small too and even smaller if you pop the wheels off eg for packing to go on holiday (really simple to do). It would be much better for rough paths than the City Mini. I sdont think you will regret selling your Stokke, I think you will wonder why Ypu didn't swap sooner but look back with find memories :)

Gawsh my typing went awry...'you' and 'fond'!

emsyj · 28/10/2011 21:03

I've got a BJCM and a Mutsy 4-Rider. I use the Mutsy for long walks (DH uses it for off-roading and the beach!) and the BJCM to sling in the car.

A friend of mine has a Petite Star Zia and that folds super-easily too - was impressed with it. I think it's just as good as the BJCM but cheaper. I like the BJCM and have no complaints about it, though.

aswellasyou · 28/10/2011 21:17

I agree about selling it. I have no idea about the different Stokkes and how much they sell for. Ebay, Preloved, Gumtree and Netmums are where I advertise pushchairs.

I think a BJCE or the BJCM and a rear facing pushchair would be a good combination. Probably a second hand Cameleon or Peach. Or a Vista, but not an old version in my opinion.

sedgiebaby · 29/10/2011 09:04

Thank you so much aswellasyou emsyj tiggywunkle I think I'm going to take your advice, do you mean this one at boots not sure as it says 'sport' www.boots.com/en/Baby-Jogger-City-Elite-pushchair-red-sport_1113957/

Also please advise, I have a lot of 'stuff' with the stokke, would you sell altogether or separate to get best return? e.g. carrycot/footmuff/summer and winter colourways/nappy change bag/footmuff/sleeping bag

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 29/10/2011 09:30

Sport is just a colourway. That's an Elite :)
Personally I sold all my Bugaboo stuff separately and ended up in profit :) It took more doing but people don't recognise the value of things in a bundle. I would maybe put some things together but you will know what goes together and what will stand alone. The completed EBay listings should give you an idea of price and how people sell things.

Tiggywunkle · 29/10/2011 09:33

Just one final tip. Boots are fab about returns. So open very carefully and really give the Elite the once over before taking it outside. You have seen the City Mini to compare it with. Hopefully you will love it but if not you can always send it back and get the mini. But I think the Elite will be better for you.

aswellasyou · 29/10/2011 09:43

Did you find the discount code on the other thread? And make sure you go through Quidco for 10% cashback.
I think I'd sell the Stokke with just the footmuff and raincover. Then sell everything else in seperate lots. But maybe consider holding onto the summer covers until the spring. I always list thdm so the pushchair finishes first and the accessories finish soon afterwards.

sedgiebaby · 29/10/2011 09:58

Oooh thanks, you lot are brill.
Aswellasyou, I did try earlier in the week to add the BJCM and that code and it didn't do anything, do you know if it is still valid. I'm going to look at this pushchair today in town with DH and probably go ahead. The other thing is the points, I only get 10 points to the pound don't I, or am I missing something else?

OP posts:
aswellasyou · 29/10/2011 10:26

Try QUIDCO90 instead. I think it had triple points the other day, but you get the points on thd full price. It would still be a good deal.

aswellasyou · 29/10/2011 10:31

I've just tried it and it does have triple points when you add it to your basket. I also got the first code to work, but you can only add one code so it makes no difference.

sleepevader · 29/10/2011 10:34

Agree with getting the elite. Also boots will be going 1000 points when you spend £75 soon so may be worth waiting for a Xmas shopping evening- wednesday maybe?

aswellasyou · 29/10/2011 10:37

It was on Eednesday and Thursday just gone. And it was£12 per £75 spend.

sleepevader · 29/10/2011 10:41

I bet they do it again- just googling for any info but nothing showing at moment.

aswellasyou sleepevader
Thanks very much. I don't have a Quidco account but I will sign up. Interestingly Boots told me today (in store manager) that they are doing this deal again on the 10th of Nov and it is for every 75 you spend not one transaction, this really adds up to a significant saving on £300. Now here is my dilemma - what would you do please?

If I buy the Elite on the 10th a) they could be out of stock b) they could have removed the 10% offer. I know they have lots of stock (well they say not showing as limited) but they cannot tell me when the 10% will end, could be any day.

The shrewd side of me is saying, buy now, check it out at home as you suggested (they did not have it in town for me to look at, I'd have to drivce 30 mins at least. Also they tried to put me off being as it is so much heavier than the mini but I'm still interested given your advice previous) and if it is still 10% off in Boots two weeks buy it sharpish online and return the first purchase.

What do you reckon?! I'd take my chances given stock levels if they told me the 10% would run for a couple weeks longer but they can't say.

OP posts:
aswellasyou · 29/10/2011 16:56

I've just looked up the expiry on those codes and the first one runs out tonight, the second one runs out tomorrow. Of course, there could be a new code then. To be honest, when there's a really good deal like this, they don't usually stay in stock very long. I don't think Boots says when there's limited stock. I think I'd buy it now, then see if there's a better deal to be had on the 10th and return the first one if there is.

sleepevader · 29/10/2011 17:30

I would do as aswellasyou has suggested too. There is usually a 10% off code floating around. Will keep an eye out for you!

sedgiebaby · 29/10/2011 21:38

I just placed my order using the extra 10% off PR code and got triple points etc.

Thanks for the help, I'm having a slight wobble in that I've only seen the City Mini and this is a fair bit heavier but I really look forward to take delivery thanks so much!

Tiggywunkle · 29/10/2011 21:45

Well done :) It should be fine. I am very envious :)
Just remember if you pop the wheels off the chassis isn't far off City Mini size. The wheels do make it look taller. But revel in the thick padded seat, handbrake, storage, calf rest, better basket, better hood and the other better things you get with the Elite :)

aswellasyou · 29/10/2011 22:17

Ooo, exciting! And you'll almost certainly make all your money back when you sell it.

sedgiebaby · 29/10/2011 22:31

Thank you tiggy, I just realised that triple points is loooooooads, it was over 5600 and basically getting over £56 back. Do you think I should use the points to get the footmuff and rain cover or go generic. Sorry I must be getting tedious now with all my questions!

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 29/10/2011 23:44

Hubby has just said I can get one....because the price is so good. But now I have the complete dilemma because I really dont need one....but I would love one IYKWIM!!! LOL

sleepevader · 30/10/2011 07:10

I would like one too but no way would I be allowed. Would like to swap the bjcm for it.
