Help! Brake cable gone on Bugaboo Cameleon

BranchingOut · 12/09/2011 16:22

Any ideas on this? My adored Cameleon has passed its second birthday, so is well and truly out of warranty. My husband was using it on Saturday and the brake cable snapped. Bugaboo apparently do not supply a replacement part.

Short of carrying a brick around with us, are there any suggestions?

i am sure i have seen new brake cable fo the bugaboo cam on ebay

pramsgalore · 12/09/2011 17:12

or you could see if your local bike shop could fix it, its worth a try

BranchingOut · 12/09/2011 18:11

Thanks, will give those angles a go.

I just lived with the broken cable on my Frog though it was only one side affected.

MonkeysPunk · 13/09/2011 06:54

Bugaboo are obliged to supply a product which is fit for use and durable....so they will have to put this right for you. It may be argued that the product is now unsafe if the brake no longer functions.
I would contact trading standards if a call to bugaboo doesn't resolve things quickly.
I pushchair would reasonably be in use for up to four years. The warranty they supply is a nice gesture, but you also have consumer rights.

BranchingOut · 13/09/2011 22:10

Well, thankfully Bugaboo don't supply a replacement part but they will supply a whole new frame!

A bit wasteful, but they were pretty helpful on the phone, so hopefully this will be sorted out soon.

Well, that is fab customer service!

suzie38 · 14/09/2011 07:10

Maybe i will get a whole new Donkey chassis in that case??? Still not heard from JL yet.

Tiggywunkle · 14/09/2011 10:47

That's great news! What good customer service! Good luck for you Suzie!

MonkeysPunk · 14/09/2011 11:11

Yes - good luck for you too Suzie - I can't see why they wouldn't unless the handle problem had been down to misuse or accidental damage. If it's a defect that's caused it though - they should replace the chassis I think - as they're unlikely to recall to fix it (from what I've heard about how they deal with things). I guess that's why their products are so costly initially.

suzie38 · 14/09/2011 14:43

Bad news...They're just sending a replacement handle part to JL...Comes in a kit with the special screwdiver...You can see buy looking at it, that the handle could be removed but not with regular screwdrivers...Good job i went back into JL as it had been ticked off in the book but Bugaboo hadn't registered the issue at their end.

pramsgalore · 14/09/2011 16:08

thats great that they are replacing the chassis Smile
suzie38 at least they are replacing it, they refused to replace my bumperbar just told me to take it off Shock luckily mothercare replaced it free of charge, when i told them i would be returning with receipt to get full refund if it was not replaced free of charge, Grin

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 16:16

Models before 2007 get a break replacement kit and after 2007 get a new chassis.

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 16:19

I used to work for mothercare and the reason that I bought a chameleon when I fell pregnant was because they were have the best customer service department that I had to deal with in the 3 yrs I was there.

pramsgalore · 14/09/2011 16:58

Shock bugaboo are customer service good!!!!! lol, just picking my self up off floor.

Grin
SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 17:10

I'm sorry you had a bad experience but the honest truth is in the 3yrs that I worked at mothercare I had only one issue with them comparing to the inumerous problems with other companies.

pramsgalore · 14/09/2011 17:16

twice a few years apart, on different models Hmm,

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 17:37

It's a shame. I have nothing but praise for them. Dorel (maxicosi, quinny, bebecomfort and safety first) are another brilliant company to buy from with great service.
Petite star and Graco are my worst nightmares, I will never ever buy from them. Ever.

pramsgalore · 14/09/2011 17:54

it is a shame, they also seem to have alot of issues with there products as well, i have heard babyjogger customer service are great

SurprisEs · 14/09/2011 18:00

I never dealt with babyjogger. I left mothercare as it was being brought in store.

I find that the ratio between sales and faulty products is reasonable. I don't know figures and my word is far from gospel but I found it was nothing out of the ordinary.
I also liked they were quick to admit when there was a problem and that they aimed to improve all the time. But it is just personal experience and not fact.

Tiggywunkle · 14/09/2011 20:36

Baby Jogger at least in the UK, aka Kooltrade are awesome. I haven't heard them letting anyone down yet although sometimes you have to wait for parts to arrive from the US.

Rey1 · 02/03/2013 13:04

The replacement brake cable kit is now widely available and a doddle to install. Bugaboo provides a brilliant instruction video on their website too. Very impressed with quality of customer service!
