Im a mum to be - and its my first baby. I been out looking at travelsystems and i'm totally confused what to go for. I need somethng that can go on both urban and rural terrain, is lightweight, can be used from birth and looks decent and is good value for money. Can anyone help please?

Hi it all depends on your budget really.

3 wheel pushchairs tend to be better for handling rough terrain but they are rarely lightweight or compact would this be an issue?

The travel system is generally a pushchair and a car seat which you place on and this is not the best solution to carting a baby around as ideally they should be lying flat to aid their breathing and spine but okay for less than 2 hours at a time. Should also say that the dangers of these systems tend to be that people pick the pushchair and car seat that they like rather than what fits their car so my advice would be to decide how often you will use the pushchair/car seat option and pick around that or get a nice lay flat pushchair and seperate car seat to leave in the car or carry.

Nipper 360 is the lightest as far as I know and lays totally flat but you can't have baby facing you at all and car seat does'nt attach.

Jane Slalom R is'nt lightweight or particularly cheap but it will face you and you can attach Jane car seat.

Thank you so much for your help. Our budget is £500 approx. I'm so glad for the feed back you have all given me- it gives me a bit more to go on and I will defenetively check the iCandy out.

PS I'm so glad to hear talk of limitng time in the car seat - I'm a chiropractor and im not so keen on the carrying round of the car seat for neither baby or person carrying them in it. But I guess it is handy to be able to take the baby in the carseat witout disturbing their snooze if one is to go for short errands? But it's a very good point.
